chassis #0253EU Was for sale in 2003 through Christian Philippsen: http://web.archive.org/web/20031027042737/www.cpcars.com/Englishversion/Ferrari212-225.htm
Saw this car at the Meadowbrook Concours this year - its in very good shape, and is completely original. The story in the link you provided was spot on. The tires are the origianls for the car, as delivered from Ferrari.
The Barchetta is not yet on display, but is in Petersen's basement. The year code on the tires says 1950! Wouldn't want to drive it very fast-imagine tires 55 years old! The car is excrutiatingly original.
"believed to have been the next owner, before it joined the reputed Fred Simeone collection in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The present owner purchased it from him in 1997 and took it to the South of France, where it now resides." I met Fred Simeone and saw his collection for starters it is in Philly not Pittsburgh and he didn't seem like the kind of guy to sell any of his cars. Anyone know why he would sell it? Erik
Erik. Dr. Simeone tends to collect race cars with history. IT may be that this particular car did not fit that description. I saw his collection two years ago, too late to have seen this car, if it was, in fact, in his collection. He'll probably be at Radnor Concours showning off a nice Ferrari or two, so you can ask him there. DM
Simeone sold 0253 EU in October 1997 already. Thru a Swiss dealer it landed in southern France and in March 2005 was sold to Petersen in L.A. Marcel Massini
