Ah, the SOLO..its great at detecting radar...and laser (once you've been tagged); automatic doors; alarms; microwave towers; probably could have detected Santa Claus and help those people on The Discovery Channel find gold in the Yukon. It works so well that I'm numb to its noises now and it spends most of its time in my glove box...
We sell and stock K40 products if you guys ever need it let me know happy to pass across the F-Chat discount for you guys... Great products I use them in my personal cars.
Escort claims that the Redline is their best unit for detecting radar and lidar (other units have other features). On the back roads,it always alerts me to the highway patrol before we can see each other. I don't speed on the freeway, but I also get advance warning there. I wasn't aware that it is undetectable;if that's true,I can see why Escort wouldn't want to advertise it.
I heard that there's a laser diffuser that turns itself off automatically immediately after getting tagged with laser. And it alerts u at the same time so u have that short time to slow down then by the time the officer shoots you with the laser again you have slows down enough. I just don't remember which brand. I like my 9500ix because of the self learning feature. It remembers all the false alarm if GPS is enabled. It's not annoying like the v1 or the other detectors out in the market. Some just stays beeping and it's freaking annoying. Lol
Haven't used Trapster, but use the Waze app. Works well and usually cops are marked by other drivers.
You can program the new K40 ( dont know about the old model) with the remote control in 5 seconds to make it turn itself off after X seconds . I dont care as it is legal in florida and few people seems to know that .
I have run the full Escort integrated system, the window mount Escort 9500 series, the Valentine and a blended integrated system using the Belltronics Sti Driver and Blinders for laser. The Sti/Blinder xtreme package was probably my best and most comprehensive coverage - but it ain't cheap to get all set up and integrated. it gets great reviews on all the components and may be the best full-on police avoidance system out there. That all being said - I run an integrated V1 on my current Scud and a 9500 series on my Ducati. I agree with the K40 sentiment though. It was already installed on my GT2 and I took it out in favor of Escort.
I went form the V1 to the BEL STi. Seems to give more warning for camera's. But lets face it, if they use the radar youre screwed anyway. I do miss the arrows a bit.
I use a passport 9500ci in my f430. Had several k40's. to me, the thing that makes the 9500ci so much more effective is the integration of the GPS. The unit learns where the false alerts are and locks them out. It also knows my speed and adjusts its sensitivity accordingly. The net result is that once the unit learns an area, it seldom gives a false alarm. I can go days without hearing a peep from the unit, but when it goes off, it is almost always an LEO. I suspect passport has a patent protecting this idea, as I notice that the K40 does not auto learn and does no seem to auto adjust sensitivity based on speed. I liked it so much in my Ferrari that I bought a second one for my daily driver, a gmc pickup truck. It has saved me in both cars.
The new K40 is integrated to the GPS as well and you can mute the false alert ( just still get the blinking lights)
And you can mute the system for speeds less than X mph, where you choose the value of X. I find that is very convenient. Again you still get the blinking lights. As an aside, I took my 7 year old nephew for a ride in the 458. Of all the things that blew him away it was the K40 with its voice, blinking lights, and beeps. He thought it was ultra cool.
Understood. But the 9500 does that automatically. If I understand it correctly, if you pass the same signal at the same location 3 times, it locks that out. If you then pass that location and the signal is absent, or even has a different signature, it unlocks. An example would be a police officer hiding in a parking lot where a false has been activated. The signal would change, so the passport would alert you. You can also manually lock/unlock signals. This level of self learning and signal comparison I believe affords a better experience. (Not too concerned with impressing seven year olds with lights....wait...then again, I do have a Ferrari so I guess that makes me about seven as well
I know this is an old thread but thought I needed to report something with the radar detectors that I've just started noticing. The brand new Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade I think has an assisted cruise control or something that is giving both my passport and brand new V1's fits. It's going off on K bands and it's rendering them useless. I live in West Texas and we'll have these new GM vehicles a dime a dozen within a few months. Anybody else notice this?
You need to turn off the POP function on your V1. This site explains how to do it - How to Reprogram V1 Radar Detector | Valentine Tech Reports | Radar Detectors I had a similar problem. This fixed it.
I would advise everyone to use the Waze app along with their detector. I have a redline set to No X and No K and it never has false alarms. The waze app is being used by quite a few people in Calif. and by the truckers. When I drive on the freeway now pretty much every cop is noted on Waze. I pretty much drive around 90 now and just slow down when the app says a cop is ahead.
On the San Francisco peninsula,I pick up K band from county sheriffs (Ka is always CHP). Are you sure no police in your area use K band?
Hard wired V1 and laser interceptor jammers. From what I could gather this was the best setup available. I preferred the integration and functionality of the Passport but it's jammers are supposed to be ineffective.
Coming from Oz, I'm not even supposed to enter into this conversation....but can anyone recommend a good Redline stockist? Thanks George
