Hi everyone, I ordered a 296 in Nero DS. Should be getting it sometime next year in June. To make it stand out I wanted to add stripes. Just like the AF design but with the two lines only. Silver, yellow, red... Anyone thinking of doing something similar? I have not decided if I will have them painted on properly once it arrives or put stickers on and cover the whole car with Xpel on top. Any advice?
I put vinyl stripes on my 458, and will probably do the F8 (hood only). If you PPF on top, you’ll not even notice it’s not paint. I hope to get the AF version of the 296 at some point, so will not need striping on that one.
Thanks for your reply and first hand experience. What you are saying is what my F dealer told me. Sounds reasonable to go the non painted way for the stripes. Just in case I get tired of the design... Now I just need to decide which pattern or design for the stripes and color... Nice problems to have...
I did mine AF in Nero Daytona with 3 stripes ( 2 tiny on side e one large in the middle ) in Giallo triplo strato .......... match perfectly the calipers and shields Image Unavailable, Please Login
To be honest I am really going off black as a color for cars, so flat and hides all the lines. The 296 GTB is beautiful and curvy I would chose another color. And as far as the stripes are concerned for a street car no stripes unless it is a go-faster model like an 812 Comp and even then I didn’t get stripes on mine. Do an elegant spec, in a dark color by all means, but a blue tdf for example which will highlight the beautiful curves and you can do a navy and terra bruciata interior or for a more modern look navy and off white inside. Sorry, just my 2c.
No worries. I asked for opinions... I looked at different colors for the 296. I agree with you. Dark blue is nice on this car but I am not sold completely on the lines and the flatish front vs. curvy rear. The black color exactly does what you describe it does and that is the effect I am going after... and I understand, it is completely counterintuitive for you... As for the stripes, I hesitate with the "race" look and that is the reason I will end up doing vinyl decal and not paint (factory or otherwise). Cheers
Never really understood the desire to paint on stripes. If vinyl is done right many will ask if it’s paint or a sticker. If you want to change it up later you can and if you decide to sell or trade, your not stuck hoping a buyer has your exact same taste.
I cannot agree more. I will have vinyl stripes done below Xpel for a smoother feel and touch. And of course, reversible...
i have factory vinyl stripes on my C8. after the ppf is installed, you can see a white/clear line next to it. which i like. for those who may not know. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are you sure the Giallo Triplo Strato will match the shields and Calipers? The yellow on the shield is quite a bit different from Giallo Modena as are the Calipers.
… one of my pet peeves, if you have shields, yellow calipers and yellow wheel centers, all the yellows are different! My first portofino was like that and it annoyed me every time I looked at the car.
Yep, the wheel center yellow is more orange than the shield yellow. Which is why I’m swapping my wheel centers for CF since I have a spare set anyways. And (don’t kill me for this) I think I’ll swap the shields for CF too.
The full AF livery is 24K. My one 4cm center stripe was 22K. I think I should have gone for more stripes given the price is the same I believe.
The tricolor livery on the 296 GTB Nero Daytona exterior makes for a great eye catching combination. On the F8 Tributo with BIANCO AVUS exterior the tricolor livery also looks good without detracting from the car's curves that happens with black. On the Rosso Corsa I like a white stripe on the outside edge so the red of the stripe does not to blend into the exterior paint color. In any of the three cases PPF is a great alternative. It is not only less expensive but also can be removed later. Thank you for the comments on that.
