When I ran 12.2 and 12.3 the TPS was faulty and had to be replaced. My 60' was 1.8 sec and 880' 7.8 @ 90mph but only trapped 111mph After the TPS was fixed the car has run a 11.95 with 119mph trap speed. When I talk about LS1 and LS6, these are not Corvettes, they are motors, so don't get your nickers in a bunch. I would have thought a US performance enthusiast would be more clued up. As to your comments on the Z06, your opinion is not shared by a single journalist who has also had the benefit of comparing them on a track. The cars I am referring to are Australian cars running the Chev motors. Our local Holden Commodore comes with a 250kw LS6 motor or 300kw Callaway version standard these days as an option. In the video's I posted the Holden Monaro two door coupe (being sold in the US as a Ponitiac GTO I believe) comes standard with 400hp. It was running cams, headers, full system, ported heads etc, slicks and I kicked its butt. The video doesn't lie. The E55 is not a drag god, it is not setup for this. You make the obvious statment that cars at the supertuner challenge are not setup for 1/4 mile races, so you cannot compare. BS you can't compare, this is how these cars are set up for the street. You are now trying to compare street legal drag cars with street cars. Trying to compare a 'Vette with 4.11 rear end, slicks, modified body work to suit, nitrous, roll cage to a stock family sedan is a REAL challenge isn't it. Now lets pull out the radical rear end and gear the car to do 180+mph, get rid of the nitrous, slicks etc, then lets have a race to 320kmh. Oh whats that, the 'Vette won't go that fast? But the puny E55 delimited does...... I would love to run one of the cars you listed over the mile. Sure they would walk away until about 130mph when they ran out of gearing, then I would steam past on my way to about 180mph within the mile on its way to a 210mph top speed. Back to the point of this thread, which some of you seem to want to ignore. I would love to see Rob run HIS mid-late 11 sec Corvette against a derestricted E55 in a mile race. As I have stated on numerous occaisions, I think he is going to be surprised, since he seems to think it is a walk in the park and a bit of a joke. Now if you have a problem with that statement then fire away, if not, don't bother with the stories of your brothers cousins car in Alabama that does 9's IT IS NOT RELEVANT.
Well it seems I'm in need of new contact lenses, or brain, maybe both. I had a look at Robs forum and somehow mistook Robs 'vette with another car, so my whole rant was a load of BS anyway, but yes a result would be cool.
Although I'm foggy on the facts, within the last six to twelve months some organization in Texas held a one mile top end competition. For cars the winner was a Vette (of some type) at app. 192 - 193 mph. I believe a Viper was second at less than one mph slower. Does anybody have the specifics on this competition? Thanks.
talking about this? http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9681&highlight=mile http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7896&highlight=mile
This thread started 2/17 about a race.Im sure its taken place.Or more vette nonsense that Ive become accustomed to in 30 years of racing. What happened?I just read this whole thread for the first time, and didnt see a result.Did I miss it?
Here are the specs for both cars. http://www.*************/Comp?sourceList=593&CompList=593-1808 Don't be too relaxed. They are the fastest Mercedes' on the market now. Yes, it is faster then the SL55 AMG. (Mclaren SLR doesn't count)
Did this race ever happen? I know Rob from Z06vette.com. I cam across this thread when I traded in my 02 Z06 for an 05 E55 and thought it was interesting. I was always curious about how I'd do at the track. Yesterday, I ran my E55 at Englishtown. Bone stock, with 25 psi of air in the stock rear Continental tires, I ran a 12.07 @ 116.85 mph. All my vette friends were shocked. Considering it weighed 4340 lbs with me in it, that's motoring. I was never able to get my 392 rwhp Z06 to do better than a 12.7 @ 113 mph. And no, I don't suck as a driver.
I raced Rob from a 30mph roll to about 160 in an SL55 and lost to him.. We ran a few times and I never gained any ground on him.
Not quite the fastest. The Sl600 runs about 11.9 and the SL65 runs about 11.6-11.7 in the QT. Both faster than the virper, gt2, porsche TT and zo6.
The 600 runs a 12.2-12.4 stock roughly the same as the E55. The R&T numbers are BS, I personaly believe the car tested had a Renntech or similar upgrade. The 65 is a genuine 11 second car though. The SL600 weighs the same as the S600 which is its biggest problem.
I agree the weight is attrocious. From the seat of the pants feel it felt a good bit faster than the 996TT I drove recently and my budyy has a GT2 and a viper which both feel very similar so I know it's really close.
Actually I spoke to a guy on another board that just got his SL65 and he ran it at the track(with video of him spanking a Z06). He ran it bone stock with no cheater tires and ran an 11.6@126. So with 100hp less I would think the Sl would be very close to running an 11.9@120 which is what Road and track got out of theirs.
It's not just the 125hp, there is another 200Nm of torque as well, which would really help to get the barge moving. My S600 did a 12.4, albeit with only 900km's on the clock, so it is probably closer to a 12.2 now. Stock it dynoed around 70hp more than my E55. The R&T guys got a 0-60 result of under 4 seconds, which just isn't believable.
But the difference between 12.2 and 11.9 is just reaction, elevation and temperature. 11.9 QT and a sub 4 second 0-60 does sound awfully fast though.
