Yup, in this very thread. But a red/tan 430 will never go under $105k, even though one already has.

After about 300 cars in the last 20 years and 3000 questions about cars in that time here is what you should think about. NO one needs to spend 100K + on a car, but if you do it better do something for you other than take you here and there. Whether it strokes your ego or you think it is a thing of beauty or it makes you feel like a special person when you drive it. Cars have no soul, and lets face it a new C7 will out perform the 430 (which happens to be the only Ferrari I'd ever own again) and my own personal feeling that all AWD sports cars should be crushed and used to make houses for the poor is well known so I would not be one to say buy the Audi unless you plan to make it RWD. I have belonged to many car forums over the years and these type of questions come up from time to time and there are always some people who say It's not a Ferrari, It's not a Porsche, It's not a Vette when comparing other cars that might be better machines (yes cars are machines), but in the end many people who buy certain car brands do so for their own reasons and not because they are the best performance wise. Good Luck

I think there are intangibles to this question. For me I've owned just about every exotic car that is out there. I just sold my 458 Spider after 6 months of ownership to purchase a F430 Spider with a 6spd manual because I prefer the analog more old school feel to driving. In my case I was willing to pay more for a low mileage red and tan F430 spider than possibly the going price. I believe there are many people that might feel this way and this might ( I say might) keep prices stable. Don't foregt these cars are the last rag tops convertibles (if you own or want a spider) as well as last 6 spd manuals so some of them might hold more value with less depreciation...just a thought...

I thought Luca D. said that going forward all new Ferraris would be turbo charged or some hybrid form to keep up with current emissions standards. It's the way just about all manufacturers are going...BMW, MB, Audi etc...within 5-10yrs they'll all be turbos, electric or hybrid of some sort...long live the end of an era...

r8 is a great car, very smooth and pretty decent on speed. however, I hate to say it...but it's boring!! f430 is not as refined but it's so much more fun!!! if you need a daily, I say go for r8...but if you want to have fun..go for the f430.

    To me,

Audi R8 = new fast car (exotic copy) sterile.
F 430 = Exotic originator/ ground breaker in Tech and speed.

And in this time from 348 cars forward including the 458, depreciation from new prices will continue and cheap plentiful cars will keep the market at bay (and cheep).

Should keep "up tick", "where is pricing at?", "3..,4..,5..,market?" in respective stickies so that those, like myself, don't have to torture ourselves through these endless threads of misery. This way, it keeps the interesting conversations front and centre and learning out front whilst keeping the Blow hards, whiners, fakes, posers, broke bastards and otherwise annoying derps where they belong, in the backround. (This means you Dave Rocks)

let's hope that EU will collapse soon and this emission standards will be just a trash, in France political party who leads in polls want France to leave EU, political experts say that if France leave EU, than european union will collapse. So there is still hope LOL cars with low production numbers should be restricted by emission standards

as far as I and many others are concerned the EU has already collapsed. Exotic and classic cars are leaving the continent in droves

Those of you quoting price deltas and saying the 430 will follow the last 20-30 years of Fcars seem to be ignoring the most important fact when comparing these cars Over the years - production numbers.

The 430 simply can't follow the price depreciation curve of the lower production cars because supply and demand always over rules "special at the time" and the "high tech of the time".

If anything the 430 and 458 will follow STEEPER price depreciation curves than their predecessors for this very simple fact. Yesterday's hot tech means nothing today. Rarity does, especially when it comes to cars.

6 speed manuals will hold value more so Than F1 for this reason as will cars that were produced in smaller numbers.

I just sold my 355 6sp spider for 4500 more than I paid for it 2 years ago. Does that mean 355s are done going down? Doubt it but who knows. But it has a better chance holding value than an F1 430 that are relatively everywhere. I'm not saying they'll reach parity, just that the high production cars will drop more relatively to where they started.

I hate to see where th 458s end up in the next few years as they're already dropping like flys and everyone swore you'd never see one under $200k anytime soon and it's already happening. Just too many made and too many guys jumping ship for spiders and the speciale.

    Yeah but...355s are slow! :)
Since you own neither a 430 nor a 458, you are safely in the clear. Whew! That was a close one. For the rest of us Delberts who own these incredible machines... we are all screwed! :)

Are they? Hill climb records seem to indicate otherwise. Maybe they're 'slow' if you only know how to drive in a straight line.

Which car has depreciated better in the last 5 years? F430 or R8?

R8 V8 wins hands down, no comparison.

That being said, do you want to buy a car to hold value or do you want to buy a car to drive around town like a teenage boy on date?

Call me crazy but an R8 is pretty exotic IMHO. Its way rarer than a 911 and in my area I see many more 458/430's than R8's. I think longterm an R8 is going to be a nice car as a keeper especially the convertible stick shift model.

Does anyone know the production numbers of R8's compared to 430's and 458's?

According to Wikipedia, the production through the end of 2012 was 21,000 cars.

The 360 and 430 production was somewhere around 18,000 cars each.

I like the R8......but everytime I think about it seriously, the first thing that always comes to mind is that the sister car (Gallardo) was better in every respect and an R8 would be a "settle for" proposition.

Same way I feel about 360/430

Me three...I feel the same way about the R8 V10...I had a deposit on one and then backed out. It is the slower, dulled down, not so good looking fraternal twin...the one that ends up always losing when compared to the all around, better brother.

I'm yet to see a serious comparison between Gallardo and R8 that the Lambo won. EVO recently compared the facelifted R8 V10 plus to the F458 and 12C and find it very competitive in that company. An it's very cheap to get the full engine potential in the R8, it's only major difference to the 560 hp Gallardo engine is in software.

The point is the R8 is lacking soul relative to the big boys.

I'd take the Ferrari over the R8. Now if we are comparing Gallardo to F430 thats another story and more difficult to measure. Still Ferrari handles better than both cars and more fun to drive. For a daily driver, I would get either an R8 or Bentley GT coupe if I had money to burn.

How is this even a question?
The R8 is fugly, the F430 is a Ferrari.
