Was anybody in Atlanta diring the mid 60s? Do you remember this place? It was on Buford Highway between Doraville and Norcross. It was filled with all sorts of exotic sports car wrecks...Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar and many other. It was a wonderful place for a 14 year old to wander for hours. I remember seeing the Rolls Royce from the movie "The Yellow Rolls Royce"...now owned by Neal Kirkham as I understand. Sometime during this period the sports cars vansished and were replaced by American wrecks.

What I am trying to find out is what happened to the sports cars? Any help would be appreciated.

I shopped there a few times in the 70's looking for Porsche parts. It's still there, name may be different, but I think the sports cars are long gone....

There is a place called R&R Auto Parts...further north and on the wrong side of the street...the old place was closer to Doraville and the cars disappeared around 1968 or 69...what I am trying to find out is where they went. There is a Porsche Or was a bit further south...I think it is called PAF...a few years ago they were heavy into 356 parts...don't know now.

I knew them as "Redneck and Ripoff Auto Sales". They had a guy made out of welded together autoparts standing out front.

If you have some older Road and Track, Car and Driver magazines, there was a place advertisting they bought wrecked exotics, and they were located in the Atlanta area. You might want to check to see if they are the ones you are looking for now.

Again that site is on the wrong side of the road and came many years after the old place. The original site now has a strip mall on it.

I believe it was partially owned by Bob Slack during that period who also owned Gatsbys Antiques on PTI until he died about 5 or 6 years ago. He sold most of the final cars via Gatsbys early mid 90s and from a little warehouse he had close to R and R. The last were sold from the Buford Highway location mid 90's.

I think your are correct about Bob Slack...what I want to know is where were the cars put in the late 60s...It was as if they were there one day and gone the next...mind you most of these were real wrecks and very few were complete by any standard...So presuming Slackk had tremendous foresight...Which I don't...where did he put them until the boom of the 80s...was noy on Buford Hwy...the cars in that warehouse were not even close to what was on the salvage yard. Over the years the cars I saw go through Gatsbys were cars Bob picked up hither and yon...many were consignment cars just for the auction...case in point Frank Lloyd Wright's 300 SL Gullwing....that peculiar color...Any number of Cobras...I stopped in one day and there were two Cobras...unrestored...a Slabside and a 289 FIA...

While we are on where did they go?...do you remember Hi Fidelity SSS on E.Paces Ferry? Hans had a not running Gullwing there for several years...wonder what happened to it? For that matter what happened to the Baker Motors inventory when they went out of business...and where are all of the Lindsay Hopkins cars?...

All of Bob Slack's foreign auto parts of the 60's were relocated to the present site near Berkeley Lake and retailed during business as usual. He sold that junkyard enterprise prior to opening Great Gatsby's in '85. With the exception of a few daily drivers, Gatsby's never sold cars out of Bob's collection. "That warehouse" in Norcross housed his early V8-Ford auto and memorabilia collection that was rumored to be largest of its kind, which Kruse International sold in a three day auction a year before Bob's untimely death. Slack's artwork, antiques, car collection and land holdings stand as testimony to the foresight he had.

I am not sure about them being relocated to the current sight near Berkely Lake...The R&R operated out of the old site for several years AFTER the sports cars were gone, and before the current site was opened. I have never seen any significant vintage sports cars or parts at the current location...foreign cars, yes, but not the classics that were at the old place.
I guess opinions about Bob vary.

fish, there was a relatively unknown "middle" R&R Salvage location that operated simultaneously with both the old and new sites. It was located on Autry St in Historic Norcross (now Hopewell Church). It opened in the late 60's a few years BEFORE the 1st site closed and was later converted to a U-Pull-It junkyard mid 70's. The chassis that you say vanished may actually have been taken to that Autry St location before the transition. Bob was flamboyant alright, and there may be some truth in all opinions of him.

Now we may be getting somewhere. I think I know that place, but never knew it was an R&R facility...some buddies anf I bought a 56 Cadillac in about 68 in downtown Norcross, I'll bet that was the place...the Caddy ran for three days...cracked block...we sold the radio and got nearly half of our money back. Good times.
