Took delivery on my 348TB SS about a month ago, got the title and registration work done 2 weeks ago and now I need to know what has to happen now. I moved to MD in '06 and got me vehicles registered, etc... when I moved here, but I forget what the process is after getting the initial paperwork done. So my questions are these:

I have hard plates with 04/08 registration stickers. Do I need to get the vehicle inspection done before MVA sends me the 2010 year sticker or am I simply waiting for the paperwork to get processed to get that sticker?

If I need to get the inspection done first, am I waiting to get an inspection form from MVA to take to the inspection station? I distinctly remember taking a form when I registered my Porsche.

When it comes time to take the vehicle to an emissions inspection station what is my best approach? They won't be able to plug it in since it's not OBII and the thought of one of the inspection station staff running the car on the dyno gives me nightmares - not to mention the fact that the car seems too low to even drive onto/over the dyno roller.

    Thanks,

    Matt

I can't answer specific questions about your tags, but I am sure others will. As far as emissions are concerned, many here, including myself have asked the same question. What we have discovered, in most cases, is that the folks at the MVA will not want to touch your car. Ask for a waiver and they will give you a 2 year get out of jail free card.
I think that we now have at least 4 348 SS in Maryland. Welcome and be sure to post some pics and come to an event.

you need to go to any md certified inspection station. If the car passes, you will receive your inspection certificate. you must take that with your registration( should be a temporary) to mva. they will give you a new registration and year sticker. you will also have to pay the reg fees. just did this last week with the lambo. follow 355's advice with the emissions.

Just to clarify, the certified inspection and the emissions inspection are two different things. The certified inspection needs to be done before going to the MVA. After the car is registered at MVA, a couple of months later you will receive a notice for the emissions inspection in the mail.

For the certified inspection, I highly recommend dropping your car off at Competizione -- they can help you get the inspection done, and you know if will be done safely without damage to your car. I don't think I'd trust just driving it into the corner gas station...

No matter how you slice it, going to the MVA is a PITA. I've had the best luck going to the main office in Glen Burnie, and going early (15 minutes before they open). You will have to wait in line to get in, but believe me, it will be the shortest line you will see at the MVA all day. Also note that you do not have to have your car with you when you go to the MVA.

As mentioned by 355dreamer, when the emissions inspection notice comes around, most of us have been able to get a waiver. Do a search in this forum for MD emissions inspection and you will find the stories...

One more piece of advice I thought of:

When you do your state certified inspection, the inspector will generally fill out the certificate by hand. Be sure to check it very carefully before going to the MVA. It has to be completely legible, and there can be no errors or omissions, corrections, overwrites or stray marks of any kind -- otherwise the MVA will reject it.

Don't ask me how I know this...
