Wow Massa made the front page CNN, I guess F1 is getting a bit more US attention? http://edition.cnn.com/2008/SPORT/05/10/motor.turkey/index.html
Nah, Massa passed him on his out lap so that he would have a free run at pole. SPEED did make it seem like he was blocking him on the hot lap though. Kimi must have had some problems during his lap...clearly the team didn't expect to see him in 4th. Not certain what Hami was thinking by qualifying on the harder tires...it's not like he gets extra credit or relief for doing such. I was too lazy to come to the t.v. room this morning (watched it from bed), so I'm just now catching up. 4a is a VERY early start for us PDT-ers.
+1...I think the talent we expected to see from this guy is starting to show (remember how he 'shocked the world' with his performance in that exhibition World Championship of Racing?). Good drivers can be be made obscure by an uncompetitive car (i.e. Alonso, Button, Webber). Unlike F1's past, I don't think talent can be the equalizer any longer. The cars are so technologically advanced that there just isn't a lot of margin to work with (especially the tires). Great driving by Hekki! Not certain what his teammate was thinking with the hard tires. Also, wish I knew what happened to Kimi's lap...I don't think he's heavy on fuel.
RD said it was his choice he felt better driving on the harder tyres, but he paid the price as his team mate, nipped in at the last min. Oh wait ... I forgot FA wasn't there to set his car up..
LOL! Still a judgement error, although he qualified pretty well for the only driver on the harder compound. It should be an interesting race tomorrow...the field seems to have closed the gap to Ferrari a bit.
They have "Kovalainen to start 2nd at F1 race soon after crash" on the headlines on ESPN.com. http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/racing/f1/news/story?id=3389740
Congrats to Massa. i suppose Kimster is either running relatively heavy, or he's still didn't get the car up to he's liking. great job by Kova too.
I don't think Kimi is a big fan of this track. But the Macs just don't seem to have the pace outside sector 1. Anyone think maybe DC is on a one-stop? (Maybe it's to keep him from banging wheels with 2-stop cars: everyone else. )
Kimi is struggling with his set up it seems. Massa has it down. Lets hope Massa gets off to a good start and Kimi can pass at least 1 of the Macs in the first 2 turns.
+1 After he beat Schumacher in that exhibition race I was expecting wonders from him. They didn't materialize last season so I kinda gave up on him. I guess I threw the towel in too early, he is beating Hamilton and that says a lot. Plus I really like the guy.
I'm really surprised how well Heikki did, considering how large his accident was last race I was expecting that he would be lacking in the mental department for this race. If Heikki continues to beat LH, I don't think we'll see him there much longer and maybe have Twin Finns at Ferrari next year.
Kimi said he made a mistake in his last run. Imagine that. Does anyone know the scores between Massa and Kimi in outqualifying eachother for 2006 and 2007?
Ok matey, I will be watching .................... grown men chasing a bag of wind around....nah, F1 for me Brian....
