I was casually thinking the other day of what really got me into music, and it has to be punk around13-14 years old that consumed and hooked me with music.

What punk bands influenced your love of music? Or, what punk bands do you still listen to or enjoy?

I was listening to NOFX, Lagwagon, Black Flag, The Descendents, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies, Rancid, Millencolin (still one of my all-time favorites), Me first the the Gimme Gimmes, H20, Swingin' Udders, Frenzal Rhomb, Sublime, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and the list could go on forever.

(as a note on the DK's, Jello Biafra was supposed to come talk at my HS when I was 15, but didn't get the $10K he wanted to come speak, at that time, I did not feel that was very "punk as ****" from him...Kind of ****** move)

My interests in Punk was from the 70s through the 90s, mostly bits here and there. Subs of Ska and Rockabilly included.

As of today, its hard to imagine that the Talking Heads were considered punk in the beginning.

Most of those are not old-school enough for this old timer, but like the Bosstones and Femmes, especially this classic.

They did not have many hits for sure but the stage shows were off the charts with lots of stuff getting trashed.. The singer went off on a solo path and she would be on stage in her bra and panties.

Yeah, I am 41, so my high school days were early 90's.

I did enjoy some early to mid 80's punk as well, but the substantially older stuff was just so poorly recorded, I didn't and still don't really enjoy listening to it. The Ramones, for example. Love the band, love the music, but the recordings are all so awful I have a hard time listening to the songs all the way through. Usually, I will default to bands that were heavily influenced from the Ramones, like Screeching Weasel and tend to enjoy that much more.

Some of the bands from earlier periods that I do enjoy are:

    The Cult
    Jesus & Mary Chain
    Circle Jerks
    Fugazi
    Sisters of Mercy
    Dead Kennedy's
    The Queers
    Exploited
    The Vandals

For what's it worth - I lived about 10 minutes from Hard Rock Live and House of Blues growing up, so I saw just about every one of these bands in concert. It was amazing. Annihilated my hearing, though.

And finally tonight. From Sweden. My favorite album ever. I’m so obsessed I asked there manager how much for them to come play a house party in 2017. She wouldn’t give me a number!!
