It's pronounced For-za, the guy who told you it was Fort-za was either a complete idiot or wanted to sound smart.

    I believe "FORTS-ah" is correct.

Edit: My Italian dictionary says "FOHR-tsah". The pronunciation guide says "z is regularly like English ts". It's an Italian word, it should be pronounced according to Italian usage.

If you knew how to speak Italian, you would know that it is prounounced FORT-sa. The person who told the original poster about the pronunciation was correct.

There is no Z sound in Italian when the letter Z is used. For example, Zebra in Italian would be pronounced "TSEY-bra."

One who calls another person an "idiot" ought to have certain knowledge of the subject about which he is speaking.

In Modena/Maranello, the word is usually pronounced fortza, fortsa, or fordsa (I heard it different ways depending on the speaker, and on my red wine titer). My Italian dictionaries list the "ds" sound as correct for z. Double z is almost always the same as a single z.

As for the American magazine, Forza, they can have it said however they want. However, as stated correctly above, the Italian word is NOT "forza".

It's "fort-za". Why would you believe an Irishman's knowledge of the Italian language -- particularly when he calls others an "idiot" without knowing what he's talking about?

Ok, being sicilian and fluent in the italian language and capable of insulting your mother and her mother in undignified sicilian slang, I must weight in on this one.

The letter z (zeta) in the italian language has two possible pronounciations

    1. generally z is pronounced like "ts" as in "pits" ex; zucchero (TSOOK-keh-roh) which is sugar.

    2. sometimes z is pronounced like "dz" as in "toads" ex;zingaro (DZEEN-gah-roh) which is gypsy

Allora, ( a beautiful transition word equivilent to "so" or "ummm" in english) now to the word in question, forza. Pronounced FORT'SA, with accent on the first syllable and as always if one can every so slightly roll the 'r' one will have the appropriate "italian" pronounciation. We don't want Dante rolling over in his grave now do we. I suggest practicing this word after several glasses of your favorite italian red and I am sure that you will master its pronounciation.

Usage of the word forza, and it has many, here are a few.

    forza-strength
    senza forza-weak
    bella forza-how clever of you
    fatti forza-chin up
    forza!-come on
    forza d'animo-strength of mind
    le forze armate- armed forces
Forza Italia- the moderate right wing party
per forza di cose- through force of circumstances
    forza lavoro- workforce
vento forza 4- gale force winds
    forza bruta-brute force

and we could go on, as there are many uses for this word. So for now,

    Ciao tutti !

It is FORt ZA, I mean like in pizza but in forza you only have one z so it is not as strong as in pizza, you have "z" and "zz" one z is softer than zz. Just use a little judgement.

    BUMP!!!!

Time for reminders. With the new game out all I hear about if Forza this and Forza that.

Rhymes with the way you say Pizza, ending with the tsa sound.

Even FORZA magazine issue #1 says so.

This has been a public service announcement.
    Thank you.

    Another Italian here:
There is no T in the way Forza is pronounced.
The Z sounds like Zero or Zulu or Zanzibar.
It is a letter that has its own sound and doesn't need any help from any other letter.

Pizza, ragazzi o amazzone have double z to re-inforce the sound of it, just a peculiarity of the Italian language.

Even the Italians here are dissagreeing. :)
This must be like asking someone from Boston and Louisiana how to say clam chowder.

Now, after what I just said in the bump, I'm confronted with this response from a good italian friend:

In Italian forza means like "pumped up , or better game on "
Its pronounced as its written Force-za, a lot of times you see flags in Italy that say
    "Forza Italia =power to Italy"
    Hope that helps?
