PRODUCTION NUMBERS 1985 1986 SINGLE MIRROR TESTAROSSA

It looks to be between 59501 to 59861. I have other numbers that are not listed on this thread. I'am only listing the the ones I receive on this thread as I'am spending more time on the flying mirror site. Ron

 

ZFFTA17B000057269, single mirror, single lug, red/tan, just under 37000miles, no mods, Euro version, listed as 86 but from what I've seen may be an 85, Houston, Texas. Originally imported to Ferrari of Houston. Car went to Mexico City, then California, now I bought it recently and brought it back home to Houston.

 

85 Testarossa 56047 red/black Euro Spec. Toronto, Ontario, Canada (the car is originally Swiss, came to Canada in 2000) All original (except Tubi Exaust). I'd love to see the website up and running. Great idea to who ever started this. BTW the Testarossa value has climbed two times in the last four months as per Cavillino Magazine. Also, if you want an idea on the production numbers, start asking people for the engine number (mine is 00121). This number will be more sequential than the chassis number and will give you a better idea of the production numbers.

 

Rocco - please do not tell me that Testarossa prices are climbing. I just sold my 1986!

I do have a question a bit off topic. The new owner just drove it home. I have not been concerned about the high oil pressure and the low oil temperature. He inquired as to whether this is normal.

What is the experience with other Flying Mirror owners? Do you also see high oil pressure and low oil temperatures?

My experience has always been high oil pressure (around 1/2 to 3/4 marking) and low oil temp. My Ferrari mechanic has driven the car several times and never mentioned it. I'm sorry to hear you sold your TR, but yes I believe the price will either rise or stay steady. I still believe that these are great cars. If you ask anyone what Ferrari model comes to your mind first, it's usually Testarossa! That can't be a bad thing. Are you still going to continue with the registry or are you looking for someone to take it over. I'm very interested in the history of these cars and do research whenever I can. Some Testarossa's have some amazing stories behind them!

 

Rocco - thanks for the reply concerning oil pressure and temperature. I would love to hear from others concerning their oil pressure and temperature readings (mine were always high oil pressure, low temperature).

By the way, I cannot take credit for this nascent Flying Mirror Registry. I really had nothing to do with it other than provide my car's data. The new owner, given his permission, I am sure will provide his data.

I believe that this registry was a collective effort, although circleind seems to have taken the lead and provided most of the sweat equity.

If you oil temperature is low you aren't driving it hard enough!

 

Hi folks, I just got back from the ALMS race at Laguna Seca, It was great! As an aside the ferrari club from Monterey showed up on Sat. All of the ferraris there were 430's,360's 599's and 612's. The only different ferrari was a 89 or later Testarossa and did it stand out from the crowd! I'am working on the web site and will have a way to include engine numbers and other info. I'am only updating the numbers I receive on this thread to this list. Ron

Can we get a serial number check on that...? I have 60665 as being a black/cream 328 GTS, which has been for sale in MO, PA and TX. I'm not questioning your ownership, just want to confirm the serial number.

 

How many miles on your car...? What year did you buy it...?

I don't know how long you've owned it, but for what it's worth, your car was advertised for sale in California (by a guy in Alaska) back in 1998. His ad stated that the car had "no books, no records, no tools of any kind, even the stereo is gone".

 

Can we confirm that the interior of this car is black...? I have it as tan...

Can we confirm that this car is a Euro and not a US-spec car...? I have a US VIN for it, and sale history in the US since 1986. Also, in 1998, Fantasy Junction had this car for sale and advertised it as having two mirrors. Did someone put on the other mirror along the way...? Can we also get a mileage check on this car...? Seems like some of the owners have really enjoyed this car.

Can we confirm that this car's interior is red, and not tan...? I have sales history for this car and every time it's listed as tan or beige.

Can we confirm that this car still only has 8,000 miles...? Back in November, 2003, it was advertised as having 8,000 miles. It would suck if this car hasn't moved in four years.

Can we confirm that this car's interior is tan...? Back in 1992, it was said to be blue.

Can we confirm this car is a Testarossa...? In 1986, this serial number was advertised as a 308 GTS QV, by Stan Makres of SNM Sports Cars, in Grosse Pointe, MI.

This is a red European car whose interior color is, to me, unknown. Last seen in 1996, in Switzerland.

Can we get a correction on this serial number...? Before 75000, all Ferrari road cars had an odd serial number; so 67614 isn't a valid number.

Gabriel, there is a definitive difference between a cream interior and a tan interior. Cream is off-white, and tan is tan. If an owner says his interior is cream, it is most likely cream and not tan.

 

Group, Sorry for the delay in reporting info: My '85 VIN#ZFFSA17A2F0058745 has a black exterior (original paint) with a natural leather interior and matching dash; I mention the dash b/c it's the same leather color as the seats, but later models came with a dark leather dash which did not match the seats...maybe there was a glare issue?? (but here even in Miami glare is not a problem in the car)...also, mine came in early through the owner of "The Collection" dealership. I have 34,000 mi, TRX stock center-lug wheels/tires. Tim Stanford Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale (954/764-7824) is the best source for info. Early owners info: there appear to be no emergency pulls for the front/rear deck latches! I'm having some installed as we speak. If anyone knows the factory location (fuel door opening??) of the rear emergency pull, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Note re: Miami Vice cars - I believe there were two original black flying mirror Testarossas (before they used replicas) for Michael Mann's production co. which were re-painted white for nighttime shots; I think my neighbor has one in storage, and the Collection dealership has the other.

I know what colors are.

I have seen a TR whose owner thought that he had tan, when in fact, it was cream.
He had never seen the two colors side by side and never really gave it any thought.

Typo, thanks for pointing this out.

Specifically 8x16 inches in front and 10x16 inches in rear.

As long as we are collecting info for these early testarosssas, it would be nice to know which cars have 1 bolt vs 5 bolt wheels and which cars have Metric (TRX) vs SAE (inches) wheels.

It is not clear to me if all single mirror cars had single lug wheels. Are there 2 mirror cars with single bolt wheels? Are there single mirror cars with 5 bolt wheels? Were there 5 bolt wheels in Metric for the tesstarossa?

I suspect none of the USA single mirror cars had the 'mouse track' style seatblets, but perhaps there are some out there.

I always thougth black was a little unnusual for a testarossa, but in fact (at least in this survey) it is the most common non-red color.

 

It was my understanding that all 1985 and 1986 had both the single mirror, the single bolt wheels (metric), and the non-automatic seat belts. The 1987 switched sometime in mid-year to the dual mirrors + mouse motors for the belts, but still had the single bolt wheels. In late 1987 to 1988, the five bolt sheels were made standard.

 

Somewhere in the single lug era, the 16" became either a factory option or standard equipment.

Circleind - would you be so kind as to change the owner listing for 63465. After 18 years of ownership by me, it is now owned by Alan LeBis, a lovely gentleman in Calgary, Alberta. He was a gem to work with during the transition. He is quite the engineer, having raced a number of cars. His first project will be to modify the exhaust. The community's help will be greatly appreciated by him, I am sure.
