Just discovered today that a piece of land in a middle of Potomac close to Leesburg called Harrison Island and that somebody even lives there... History of the island is very interesting, but there is absolutely no information on "modern history" lol Would be interesting to learn more. Nothing in Google, one relevant link and it's dead... Mystery...

I have a friend who owns an island on the Potomac near poolesville. I believe it's a 99 year lease or something. When we were young, we used to camp there.

Cool stuff. Bing Maps bird's eye view gives a pretty good view. Looks like they have 5 trucks and a tractor at their house. Didn't see a dock...

Selden Island is downstream and privately owned. Its a huge sod farm. Great for frisbee or kite flying.

then, further downriver just above Riverbend park are some long skinny parallel wooded islands. Some you can be on and not see either shore because there are other islands blocking being seen from shore. Just google-mapped them to see if there are names and found a hidden 50 foot long structure in middle of island about 3000 feet upstream of where the pipeline clearing crosses the island. Appears could be an illegal cabin or party house.

Think you are correct. I've paddled thru there many times and don't remember seeing signs of development. Figured it'd flood too often. Funny that the sign in the photo on the link says "clothing optional" as on more than one occasion the people I encountered in this area were naked.

That is interesting. Property value on shore just across river 1-2 million. Property on island, $4k-6k.
