    Hi all,

I was hoping to get peoples opinion's an appropriate price for a 2007 salvage rebuilt 2007 F430. I definitely know there a some Ferrari pricing experts on this site. I'll provide all the info I have and upload some photos.

    • 17k miles
    • Black on Black
    • F1
    • Multiple owner
    • Private sale near LA in Cali
    • It was salvaged at a young age and rebuilt. There are no records and the original damage was unknown. However, the owner and the mechanic who worked on the car and several other F430s reports that the car works great. They both honest people. It's been on the road working for over 10 years.
    • New headers recently installed by the above mechanic
    • Tubi exhaust
    • Carbon fiber dash and diffuse, but not steering wheel, shifter, door sills or rear light accent/heat grill. The hood has a carbon fiber wrap
    • ** Check engine light is on** The above mechanic does not know the case. He's only worked on the car once, but states he cannot get the diagnostics off the car. He knows both ECUs are working and suspects its shorted wire. The are does have aftermarket wiring.
    • Regular brakes - not ceramic
    • I need to get more info on the service, but as far as I know the clutch is original
In my state (Illinois) you cannot buy a salvaged car. It has to be bought by a rebuilder, certified, and then titled to me. That process is annoying, but doable. It does cost about $2k.

How would you appropriately depreciate a salvaged Ferrari? The mechanic expressed to the owner that the car is valued in the mid-to-high 90s? I know the average is $126k for a 430, but that includes the Scuderia and manuals. Is that throwing off the F1s? The owner got it for less than $100k - by how much I don't know

I'm looking at BaT and the comp for a clear, unsalvaged title was $93k 5/10/21. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-ferrari-f430-40/. In addition to the pictures, I'm attaching ALL the F430 F1 sales from 6-20 to now. Some people say the prices are higher than in 6-20, but the comps show higher prices in the past for these the F430 F1 Spider.

I'm not a low baller. I like to present the market number and see if the deal will naturally happen.

    What number do you think?

    Really appreciate the help!

That thing looks haggard on the inside, which tends to represent how it was cared for. Why can't you read the code, that is odd?

Surprised a VIN search doesn’t disclose the salvage cause. If techs don’t see anything, maybe it was a flood car?

I would stay away from it. Car looks like it was water damaged in the inside. And with all those aftermarket hood and rear bumper accident look like it was a big one. Does the car driver straight?

Interesting. I did not consider a flood. The CarFax just says the airbag was deployed so I'm thinking it was an accident. Wait the flood would explain an issue with the electric components.

Attaching the carfax. I can pick up on the main points (crash, airbag deployment, re-titling). Is there another way to analyze it?

They total for nothing in Cali, but airbags deployed is a whole different story. Only fire in Cali, no water therefore no flood

If you want a 430 to own and enjoy, I wouldn't buy this car. Even without the airbag history, the interior and exterior are not good. That steering wheel has either been through a lot more than 17k miles or it's been really unloved.

if you want one to trade and flip then if you have to ask these questions you already know the answer!

If budget is limited, buy a cared for, high mile, documented example and you will have a wonderful ride. These are great cars. Mileage nothing to be scared of. This car is.

I think it's just as likely the thing just sat outside a lot in socal, and that's why the interior is a little rough. If you trust the owner and mechanic, that goes a long way in this situation imho (assuming this is based on some history or a referral or something). Would like an idea of service history over ownership though, so still some more work to do.

I think it needs to be a number that's irresistible and one that you're ok with owning for basically life or having a hard time selling yourself later. If I could get insight into what the check engine light is on for and assume that's backed out of the price, I'm good at $75k (budgeting for a clutch) and passing miles on it like crazy. Expect this to be a game of chicken, I don't think this is a low-ball - you're accepting the risk that he's passing on and that needs to be built in. As you can tell, many would simply walk away, so you'll have a limited market to get out of it later. He can't expect full salvage value for the car with the engine light on plus the story on top of it.

My dealbreaker in this scenario is if the car has a payoff or lien on it - don't want to get caught in limbo on that front.

I wouldn’t buy it, I know it’s tempting, but there’s no resale value on the vehicle. It’s going to be a tough sale. Ferrari enthusiasts will flag it right away!

You won’t save any money in the long run. The “discount” you get for a salvage car is not going to pay off when you attempt to sell. You’ll have to pass the same “discount” or more to the next owner and selling it will not be easy.

Save your money and buy a good titled car. If you don’t have the cash then finance it for a longer period because in the end the extra money you spend will come back when you sell with much less risk and hassle when you own the car.

One more thing to add, if you can barely afford the car now... RUN AWAY... you will not be able to afford it when something breaks. Parts for these cars are not like a Honda or even a Porsche. They are $$$$$ even if you do your own labor.

Totally agree, there’s no way Ferrari would put them selves up to repair this artwork. So bottom line stay away

Was that a rental? I have never seen a 17k miles car with BOTH seats looking that used. The leather should be fresh at 17k miles unless the owner left it outside and parked it with the top down over and over.

A 17k miles black spider F1 in good condition would be $130k to $140k in this market. Last year it was a $110k car. Usually a salvage or branded car is 30% to 40% off a comparable clean title car.
This? I would buy it for $60k max. Too may 430s out there to spend more on a car with a salvage title and unknowns.

Folks saying they would offer 40,50,60k is kind of a joke. I doubt any seller would take that. I think the F430 recently for sale with 101k mi & questionable condition e-diff (errors) sold for 80k.

Have a PPI done and figure out the error code prior to any offer.

Just like any car, find out why the seller has it listed. If they need money for legal/debt reasons then perhaps a deal can be had. Stay away if for sale due to lingering errors or repairs.

Here is a black F430 with lower miles that just sold on BAT for $113k. So that is the current value for a car in far far far nicer condition and that doesn't have any accident history. I wouldn’t touch the car you are looking at at any price. But if you had to, something $50k or less might make sense if you felt that you were just going to drive it until it drops (which could be pretty soon based on the condition). Maybe then you would be able to recoup some of the cost by parting it out. But for most of us, just way too much brain damage to even consider.
