All: Two weeks back, I thought I had sealed a deal on a Pozzi / Carte de Zucchero 550, but the seller got cold feet prior to the PPI and backed-out of the transaction. I chased that car for two months (long story), so I am still licking my wounds from losing it. It had everything I wanted: no shields, 250GT shelf and quilted headliner, Pozzi exterior, and a distinctive interior. Thus, the present quandary: Pozzi cars seem few and far between, so I've thought about pursuing something in TdF, but my heart is stuck on Pozzi. I hate to settle for something I like less than the proverbial "one that got away," but I have been looking at cars (from afar via F-chat posts, online advertisements, etc.) for more than a year now, and I cannot wait forever. Does anyone know of a Pozzi car for sale? I am less picky about the interior color, but condition / service history / etc. is a must. Thank you in advance for your help, F-chatters. PS: I promise to complete my profile soon!
I recall a blue one at the Silicon Valley Auto Group about 3 months ago, but have not checked recently. I was looking to trade up from a Barchetta to a Superamerica, and noticed it. It actually may have been TDF Blue, instead of Pozzi, but the colors look real close to me.
I believe TdF is generally considered more desirable. Anyway, the colors are so close to be, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I do think there are some NART Blue's running around for sale though. Best of luck, dsd
Pozzi is quite different from TdF, particularly in sunshine. Pozzi is darker and is less metallic looking. I like Pozzi better, but I'm not the majority. Most people order TdF, and there don't seem to be a lot of Pozzi's around. There's a couple for sale in Germany at the moment, I believe, but that was not the info you were looking for. Sorry I can't be any help. Here's a comparison of the colours (pic 1 & 3 are Pozzi, 2 & 4 are TdF): Onno Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://www.sportauto.cc/inventory_ferrari/1999_550_Blue/index.htm This looks like Pozzi Blue, but it might be TDF
rcm360, thank you for the heads-up on the car at Sport Auto, but unfortunately, that car is TdF. I think the blue interior with the crema piping is tasteful, though. Pozzi is non-metallic and very dark by comparison. In certain low-light conditions, it almost looks black.
looks like sheehan sold one recently. Might be able to track it down. http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-550M-115178
An older gentleman has one for sale in Oregon. It was on ebay only got to 75k he wants 90k. go back in 550's on ebay and you should find Bob's car. good luck Rick
There was also a swatter's from Oregon on ebay recently. Its the one that had the grey stripe installed. -dsd
Thanks, targanero. The Sheehan car is almost identical the one I tried to purchase a couple weeks ago except it has shields and two-tone Daytonas, plus it's a 1999 instead of a 2000. I saw it on Sheehan's site just after it sold and contacted him about it, but he (understandably) protected the new buyer's identity and said that I should look for it again on his site sometime in the future. If anyone on here bought it, or knows who bought it, please consider contacting me via PM to discuss a possible resale. Rick, I cannot seem to locate the Oregon car on eBay. Any chance you could send me a link to the old ad, or provide me with some contact information for the seller? Was this the car with the big polished HREs that was discussed several months back? Thanks, again, for all the help. I will continue to hunt something in Pozzi, but I may be forced into a compromise on TdF / Swatters / NART. It may make sense to consider 575s, too, but I want a 6-speed (otherwise, the gorgeous Pozzi / tan 575 at Tonkin would be a good option).
Thanks for the pic and the explanation. After all these years of loving these cars, I never really knew the difference and the pictures were helpful. I'm with you, I like the Pozzi better, but I'd find a way to live with either one.
Pleasure! There is a confusing amount of Ferrari dark blue colours. Swatters, LeMans Blu, Pozzi, TdF, NART, Sera Metallico, maybe more but these are the ones I know about . Swatters seems to be between Pozzi and TdF, LeMans is a bit more purple and sparkly, I think NART is a lighter version of TdF, and Sera seems to be between TdF and black. And in the end, after months of looking at photos trying to figure it out, I got a blue 550 with none of those colours (it's Porsche Nightblue, see my profile). How do you figure that... Bottom line: 550/575 looks great in dark blue! Onno
Pozzi is the best Ferrari Blue for large cars. It is non metallic and it can look almost black in certain light. Here's a pic of my 575 Image Unavailable, Please Login
When the 550 came out, I considered it the world's most beautiful car. In my opinion, it was perfect. The 575 made some tweaks--some I liked and some I didn't, but I felt that overall, it was better. (Enzo, coming later, is now the most beautiful to me.) I would love to see your car in person, as I have not seen the Pozzi on the 575. I am considering a black Superamerica to trade up from a Barchetta. I can't seem to find a blue Superamerica in America. Looking at your car, I am jealous. It is the perfect color for the (almost) perfect car.
Interestingly enough, I am starting to gag a little on the price of the Superamerica. I have seen red/tan ones with less than 5,000 miles--priced in the high 200s. Non red cars seem to be priced above 300K with the owners not willing to talk much. I have seen the GTC package in the low 310s I have seen a few premium cars--owned by famous people or something else--over $350,000. While I really like the "gentleman" feel of the Superamerica, if I am going to go with $300K+ for these cars, I may come out better going for the Lambo Murcie Roadster. With the Lambo you get a MONSTER car, with considerably more horsepower, and an enormous "wow factor." Having never owned a Lambo, the thought is appealing and my 16 year old son is all over it. I know there is no way I would drive the Lambo as much, but I have just traded an M-5 (previous body style, not the new 500 HP model) for a 750Li, so I have the daily driver covered. In the end, I like the Ferrari more, and it is probably much more enjoyable in day-to-day combat. Only weekends with time and space to burn will the Lambo be a really fun thing. But . . . how often does anyone get to own a Lambo?
Ferrari of San Francisco seems to have a few talk to Evan or Brad good guys: http://ferrarisanfrancisco.com/preowned/index.cfm?CFID=10294457&CFTOKEN=29506333
Some really nice shots of an FChatter's blu Pozzi 550 here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136579682&postcount=66.
Awesome car! You've got red calipers too - very nice. On some of the photo's it looks like a dead ringer for my car, except for the rims. Onno
Thanks Onno, it is indeed a beautiful car - but very important clarification: not my car . Belongs to Toronto FChatter Steve ("goldy355").
I know the Enzo is the "standard," but how could anyone fail to see the beauty in the 550. The stance, the aggressive lines, the side rakes, the front grille, the hood scoop, the lights. I simply love the 550 -- and I like the 575, but it was "second" not the first to look that way. That pozzi blue is perfect. Just re-read this post. God, I hope my wife does not read this . . . she already thinks I love the car more than her and if she sees this . . . I will be sleeping alone for a while.
