Where's the VIN...? The chassis number is stamped on a plate on the steering column behind the steering wheel and there's a plate in the engine bay with the full VIN. Where else...? Is the VIN stamped or noted anywhere else on the car...?

Thanks, Dave... So the VIN is only noted in two places on the 400i...?

I don't know if by engine bay you mean the block, but the full VIN is stamped on the front right side of the engine block.

The Vin is stamped in the engine bay on the chassis member by the passengers side front wheel arch housing......alongside the front of the cylinder head...

Will post pics later if nobody else beats me to it

Are you chassis number hunting or have you finaly decided you need to have a proper Ferrari?

Do you mean that all this time I've been looking at that number and thinking it was stamped on a flat faced flange off of the block when it really is a chassis member? Ooops!

Go for the V12 baby! Once you go V12, you won't go back!

John, once you take all the injection / exhaust manifolds (headers)and other assorted junk off that side of the engine you can actually see it quite well........when everything's in place its a bit of bugger to see :D

He's probably irritated that people keep covering the one on the steering wheel. Neither rain, snow, Vegas security or electrical tape shall keep Carbon from his self-appointed rounds...

For a minute I was hoping he'd finally saved enough money to buy a 400, think a black one with tinted windows would suit the little scamp

John and Andrew, I didn't know that, thank you... I know it's stamped on the chassis in the engine bay and on a rectangular metal plate in the engine bay, but I didn't know the whole VIN was stamped into the block... I'd really like to see pictures of that...

Just being thorough - no car searches yet unfortunately... :)

LOL...! That's only happened to me once with a 400i Automatic (see below)...

And if I were to get a 400, 400i or a 412, I would have to go with a black cut-conversion, like 45769 (second picture below - minus the shields!)...
