I have a date with a Turbo S tomorrow morning, My build is done, if I like it the order goes in.
Agree with you! No interaction at all with the car. Guess we are just old fashioned but my Ferrari keeps my attention and a big smile on my face.
I cancelled my appointment to drive the Taycan, I really have no interest in owning any electric car ever. I guess there are some tricks old dogs just cannot learn.
Heh, today I was just thinking after driving an electric for awhile I'm starting to think the opposite, that I never want to drive a gas engine again. The instant torque is just so addictive. I also can't stand automatic transmissions, or DCTs. If I can't have a real manual, I don't want a transmission at all. I'm quite disappointed that the Taycan has a transmission, particularly as it seems to just make the range worse. (or maybe it does help but Porsche is just realllly far behind Tesla on efficiency)
To each his own. I use my torquey electric golf cart in the neighborhood for groceries, etc. Use my NA 458 with paddles to experience the exhilaration of more than point A to point B. But I’m not judging you Jaguar 36. Diversity makes the world better
many of us lamented the loss of the manual transmission. i am now addicted to paddle shifters and would not "go back". many of us lamented the turbo "intrusion", as it changes the exhaust note in a negative way. given the choice of the noise vs. the torque, i appreciate the improved performance of the turbo. a well-designed electric vehicle has much better performance and far less maintenance than a gas engine. will all lament the loss of the gas engine, but will adapt to this new and improved technology.
I will leave the modern technology to you younger people, I was forced to get a smart phone, hate texting, and I like the smell of a gas engine in the morning. I think I may buy one of the newer Panamera's now that they are not as ugly as the first one I had. Cars are not transportation to me they are my tinker toys, if I cant take them apart they are no fun.
Good thing that you are (nearly) as old as me Morrie; not going to be able to take these things apart much longer (not only complexity, but gd rules, from every quarter)...
If even Doug could discern the difference, the difference must be so big between Taycan and a sedan. Hmmm...
I drove a 4S Panamera yesterday, this is one of those situations where a twin turbo V6 is just not the right engine for the car. Even with the sport exhaust it sounded terrible and 440hp is not nearly enough power for that car. Looks like I'm going with the turbo, but I will say this I had not driven the new Panamera until yesterday, Porsche did a great job on the chassis,( the car I drove was pretty loaded Sport Chrono, air suspension, rear wheel steering), the thing handles even on 21" wheels with all season tires..
I have a Taycan Turbo S coming in January/February timeframe. I am not sure if it is for me but figure I will give it a shot. Happy to report back.
Shmee can be annoying but that was a decent drive and review. Clearly, Porsche has maintained their DNA while introducing an all electric power unit. Impressive. But, I would expect that from Porsche. As you said either somewhere in this thread or another, if Ferrari keeps their basic DNA (styling, handling, speed) their e-cars will also be impressive. Hopefully, we'll still be able to drive our petrol based babies along side these silent speedsters.
Taycan might drive better but missing 1 pedal driving of tesla and lack charging station infrastructure. I would get tesla and then modify suspension tires brakes and aero kit for same $ as tycan. That gives best of both
