Say it ain't so: https://rennlist.com/articles/porsche-announces-significant-price-increase-for-2024-models/ So much for the "little people".
The clientele can certainly afford to pay inflation-on-steroids prices, but the question is will they? Sounds like Porsche management is asking future purchasers to subsidize their mounting Electric Vehicle R&D costs. Will be interesting to see how many customers will vote with their wallets. Nobody likes to be gouged. Example: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Raise ‘em to the moon. I don’t care if they go belly up. I can only speak for myself when I say….Nothing’s come from that company worth having since 2011.
Porsche is selling all the sports cars (911s and 718s) that they can, or will, make. Dealers are getting big "additional dealer markup" premiums and have huge wait lists. My Porsche salesman, who I consider a friend, told me not to bother even getting on his list, because in the 2-3 years until they get to me, at best, he doesn't even know what the car will be. So on those cars, it makes a lot of sense for Porsche to raise prices. Clearly people will pay them, since they are paying them already, just in the form of additional dealer markup. Macans, Taycans, Cayennes, and Panameras, on the other hand, are just sitting there or being discounted. My local dealer, for instance, has 2 718s and 2 911s (and I'm not sure those are not sold), but 9 Panameras, 14 Taycans, 74 Cayennes, and 87 Macans! So raising the price on those, no, not a great idea.
I think ev cheaper to make than ice. I think oems want to sell evs at higher price to offset loss of service revenue. Evs are toasters little to breakdown. Funny users will pay for p bugs conversion to not ready for prime time conversion. I certainly will not be playing.
Hmm I could say they're a bunch of dumb schits. On one hand they clearly have a great "brand" and foir sure the suckas pay for brands. If a911 whatever is 150k its still half a ferrari cost with 85% of the cachet, plus unlike a ferrari its still classy. however the dealers are so lame and the process of trying to buy one of their cars so uselss that only the gullible need apply, unless you want some crappy rebadged audi. they've got the band sucka thing down. BVut try buy one of their real cars like aGt4 Rs its impossible and gtting on any list as the porche ag suggests is laughable. Which tells me they really are dumb schts. They were dumb enough to try foist a turbo 4 on the unsuspecting suckas in the boxter, didnt work out. Now they have a potential smah hit with the Gt4 ad Gt4rs, but won't build the cars in anything like 50% of demand. maybe in Europe those electric sportscars will sell, not so much in the USa. Wouldn't be the first time a german auto manufacturer and proche specifically radically misread the market. Remember when ferrari had no competition, ***** dealers and overly restricted supply with a dose of false snobbery, that begat Mclren, Aston, Lambo all gaining significant sales in that niche. Now ferrari far friendlier to deal with, and hey they want to make profit which means selling cars, not creating vast ADMs for dealers.. Given the startupo and development costs porche has no real competition, but theyre sure creating the best conditions for a competitor.
I have to disagree about the 4-cylinder 718 Boxster/Cayman. Personally, I prefer my 6 cylinder 981 Cayman, but those cars have been selling very well. There are wait lists for those as well.
it would kinda make sense to make some more sports cars then, doncha think. I can actually see Gm and ford eating into the proche sportscar niche. The vette is certainly doing so, and ford is rumored to be mulling a mid engine car. Even lotus if they could actually deliver the emira would be eating into that market. In the meantime yes, why let the flippers and dealer make the markups. parties always end.
There’s markup on all the sports cars anyway. Maybe Porsche is adjusting MSRP to be closer to market. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Yes this is what I think. Question is if dealers adjust their markups… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Porsche planning to axe the Cayman GT4. Plus, Info on 718 Boxster and Cayman price increases: https://www.thedrive.com/news/porsche-cayman-gt4-canceled-for-2024-prices-hiked-on-718-lineup One more reason that my '07 Cayman is a forever car.
$4900 price hike on the 718? I remember when the Boxster/Cayman was the “affordable” new Porsche… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
“But if they hike the starting price of a base 911 Carrera to over $120K will consumers begin to balk?” Rhetorical question at best. Porsche doesn’t build base model 911’s. Base level automobiles are nothing more than marketing gimmicks to get customers in the door. This applies to almost every automobile manufacturer today. Base models are the advertised price of a car manufacturers’ car price. Trouble is…they don’t build them.
Part of the reason is that the 911 model range has grown from the old 911 T-E-S to a dozen models from the Carrera through the track weapon GT3 RS. It’s psychologically hard to drive away from a Porsche dealership with the peasant-spec 911. Another view is that everything else has become stupidly expensive — apparently you can spend $80K on the new top of the line Mustang and close to $100K on a Jeep Grand Wagoneer — which in a superficial way erodes Porsche’s exclusivity. The window sticker on my 1993 Carrera 2 was somewhere around $70K, IIRC, and that was nosebleed-level compared to just about anything except Ferrari and Lamborghini. I think the 348 was low six figures at the time. In 2023, $120K isn’t ultra-high end. You could probably wander into a BMW dealership and spend that on a car no one would really notice in a nice ZIP code. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
And that is truly a shame, as the simplest Porsches are some of the sweetest, especially for road cars.
Absolutely. And that's been true for a while. I'd love to find a good 997.2 Carrera coupe with a 6-speed manual.
It’s why 930 Turbos are priced in the stratosphere. I’m enjoying the 964. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I've been gouged at the Porsche dealers repeatedly for a still-under-warranty Macan. I never had a problem with dealer service with any high-end car, but Porsche dealers of late have been beyond ridiculous for routine maintenance (and the modern ICE's have become too complicated). It's the soul reason I'm determined my next car will be EV.
It’s like my local Porsche dealer said, “The 992 isn’t a 911. Two different cars”. I just don’t enjoy 70 mph in a car that’s built to do 180. But now…70 mph in this car is a blast… Image Unavailable, Please Login (Pretty car btw. It’s a pretty blue )
