I'm currently considering one of these. If you have one or have driven one, please respond with any comments good or bad. Is the V8 worth the extra 12k? Does wheel size (18"-20") make much difference? Any mechanical issues?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

I know they are built from the same base but my friend, cab7104(When I find him I'll make him post), said he test drove the Cayenne and the Toureg and preferred the Toureg. He only had good things to say about it.

I drove a V-8 Cayenne for about a half hour 6 months ago. It had decent power but it definitely isn't fast. I liked the looks of it although I thought the interior could have been better. The new V6 is vastly underpowered. I have never driven the new V6 but everything I have read on it says it needs more power. If you get a Cayenne I would pass on the new V6.

If you are going to buy the Cayenne S, save yourself the markup and get the Toureg. Same exact car with a bit more emphasis on off roading. The Cayenne is a good car, but has a lot of little issues with rattles, fitment, etc (typical Porsche). If you want a fast SUV though, the Cayenne Turbo is great. Great interior with suede trim and very fast. Hope this helps.

agreed...went looking for an suv for the wife last year, the toureg had better build quality and interior for less money..both are heavy suv, but good handlers for the weight, but you still feel the weight...the 6s are slow but still ok for mundane tasks..its just so hard to drive these after driving any sports or sporty car!!!!

My wife has a Turbo Cayenne and my daughter has a V6 Toureg. The Turbo is super and the Tourag is nice as well. I reccomend both. Great Vehicles. No problems.

I have driven all three and currently have a Cayenne Turbo in stock.

Brake pads and rotors needed replacement at 45kms (30K miles) at a cost of $2,100 USD (expensive IMHO). The other "scheduled" services have been inexpensive. My vehicle has had numerous repeated issues with the "check hi-beam warning light" and it has become apparent that a design defect in the headlight unit assembly is to blame. After 4 trips to the dealer it was fixed. That's the only real problem per say I am aware of.

The turbo is the way to go if you can swing the dough (hey that rhymes !!)......the automatic 6 cylinder is a slug (the 6 speed manual is adequate) as is the V8 "S"....the turbo however is simply breathtaking.

Why don't you buy a used turbo ?

My father drives a 2004 Black Cayenne BiTurbo. The vehicle is great. It was purchased in March, and the only problem so far (after 7 months and 22,000 miles) is a few months ago the rear liftgate wouldn't open. It was fixed quickly, effiently, and kindly. Very Recommended. My father chose to get the 20inch SportDesign(I believe that is what they are called?) Wheels. They are lovely. The performance is very impressive. I believe the total prive of his car was $109,200. It was Black outside, Black with Aluminum trim inside. Options he got included: 4 zone A/C, 20in. Wheels, Porsche Ceramic Cross-Drilled Brakes, Sport Exhaust System, Clear 3M Car bra, 45% tint all around, Moonroof System, Warm Weather Package, Keyless Entry, Suede Roof, and several other things that I can't recall at the moment. Bottom Line: If an SUV is what you need, the BiTurbo will own everything else on the streets, If you are comparing the V6 Cayenne to the V8 (Naturally Aspirated) Cayenne S, I would also look into other manufacturers, Such as, the Infiniti FX35/45, Lexus RX330/400h, and the upcoming Audi Q7(Based on the Pikes Peak Concept), Oh, and also look at the BMW X5 3.0i/4.4i/4.8iS.

    My advice?

Dont get an SUV unless you're hauling the little league around. SUV's are no more practical for anything else that occurs in everyday life. Groceries can be picked up in a car! Stop fooling yourself! (directed toward the majority SUV crowd)

Most people that buy SUV's are mentally deficient. 95% of all SUV's sold are NEVER used. But I guess that makes people feel better that they have weight superiority in the event of a collision. Go figure.

I drove an S version, which was nice, but the near identical form to the Toureg was a major turn off. Also, the interior was completely disappointing, especially the quality of the switchgear and the controls which would embarass a Ford SuV.

    Turbo? Who cares about switchgear?

Don't get an SuV for hauling people, get a minivan. SuV's are great for people like me who need 4WD, but don't need the full utility of a truck or the space of a minivan, but need a good portion of both. It will pull trailers, haul people, and climb the mountain that I live on, even in the deepest of snow. An added plus is the height, which gives me great views of cleavage every day.

I went through Cayenne training at Barber Motorsports Park and have driven all the Cayennes quite a bit. Off-road they are great and on-road even better.....They do tend to be more quirky and more like a "sports car" than the typical SUV (aka BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc.) but for sports car owners this does not seem to be an issue. Just depends on what you are used to. ;-)

Working at a dealership I do see alot of strange and bizarre things from time to time. But the Cayenne has been a pretty decent car/truck. The engines have been flawless, we did have our first engine problem since the Cayennes introduction this week and it ended up being a cracked spark plug cap/coil that was causing a fault in the system and not running on all 8-cylinders. Not too big of a deal. Brakes have not been too big of a deal for us, we have replaced maybe 4 sets of fronts and one set of rears out of approx. 250 sold.

Having driven both in the same day, I felt that the Porsche was a little bit more sporty, but overall, preferred the VW. I think that the VW had more room to move around, rode smoother, and the power was ample on even the small engine. I would say go with the V8 or the V10 TDI, but even the V6 wasn't hugely underpowered. Just my .02, in the end, it is what you really think about it, if you think the Porsche is worth the extra $$ then go for it, for me, I thought that the VW was more luxury, and just as much pep as the Porsche that I drove.

We have a Cayenne Turbo, 30K miles, no (serious) problems. It's a great car. If you don't want to buy the Turbo, go for the VW.

Don't fool yourself the number one selling car is a truck, there are more trucks here where I live and though out the US than cars, and I never see anyone hauling ANYTHING, there gas mileage is just as bad as a SUV.

So why doesn't someone pick on the damn truck owners and there stupid 1 ton diesel's polluting up the world and hauling NOTHING.
    but im not bitter.

Diesel emmisions are cleaner than gasoline emmisions.

The problem most have w/ the SUV crowd is the impatient, know-it-all, drive 100mph while on the phone, you can't see around me, and I'm cooler than you crowd that they attract...If these SUV drivers just went down the road like others vehicles it would be fine. It's the look at me, attention starved, insecure, I need attention crowd that buys them that irritates people...They are the current trend. THAT is why they sell..No different than the black leather coats everyone seems to be wearing now...Used to be a biker jacket..Now it's a trend. I don't like the truck crowd any better, they always ride my ass and make these in your face evasive maneuvars trying to scare everyone with their size...Little man syndrome...The minivan drivers just seem oblivious to anything other than themselves.....I think the best drivers
I have seen overall are Volkswagon drivers. I have an SUV and love it...But I USE it...been in the back woods, pulled trailers, filled w/ people, got me throught snow country, and looked good at the curb....Someomne just needs to get the ball rolling w/ a new trend and alot of these suvs will go away..

There are less greenhouse gasses with diesel but much more pollutins.
    http://www.epa.gov/autoemissions/about.htm
Go to this site and compare gas to diesel you will see what I mean.

I just HATE those stinky thinks in front of me, so noisey and again there trucks are always empty.

If they need it for towing I understand but where I work those macho man need there diesel trucks, empty of course, But there always talking about how much they can haul/tow.

I have two things in regard to this I learned over the years.

Fancier the car, clothes, attitude...less the money, higher the debt, higher the attnetion needs and unhappiness.

Bigger the truck....bigger the infieriority complex...

I have never seen the amount of level headed, high income, "ok" people driving anyhting as much as a Corvette....The Corvette is a perfect example of a vehicle for car nuts who have nothing to prove to anyone else...
