A journalist's opinion is not automatically based on fact and evidence.
That article is clearly biased and can be dissected into worthless dust.
Let's take one comment: "There is not a shred of evidence that would stand up in a proper court"

    1. the author is not in a position to know about existing evidence.
    2. the author is not in a position to know what would stand up in a particular court of law.
    3. the author's idea of a proper court is influenced by his nationality,
which may not coincide with the court's.

He further states "There is no evidence at all that Stepney was being paid to pass on information",
which he corroborates exclusively with statements from Stepney.
    Some evidence.

That article expresses an opinion which is based on the same facts
and evidence others have used to reach their opinion. As such, it is
worth as much as the opinions expressed on Fchat.

Mind you, I'm not suggesting Stepney was paid or not,
rather that your qualifications of evidence, fact and worthwhile opinion
are very subjective .... which is just fine, until you elevate it to
somehow more 'based on fact, evidence' than others'.

What I said, was that if the article did accomplish something, it is to further demonstrate Stepney's
lack of integrity and credibility, which does little to corroborate the assertion that he wasn't paid.

As mentioned, I am not arguing for nor against that - just pointing out that your notion of
'sources' and 'evidence' is not on firmer ground than anyone else's.

You seem to be suggesting that I posted something that said or implied I thought that article constituted evidence. That is not the case. I was talking in general terms about the need for people to base their opinions on evidence - I did not refer to that article at any time. I was actually relating my comments to the post by lucky_13_2002 who said:

"No one has ever officially stated that he got 1 million bribe from McCheaters for sure. As far as we know it was part of the ongoing investigation, the records for which were sealed. I am sure that maybe one day we would know for sure"

After a number of posts that seemed to be accepting the payment of 1m to Stepney as fact we at last had a post that conceded that no such fact was known.

See above - I did not elevate the article to the status of evidence, I never referred to the article. I think I have a very OBJECTIVE view of what constitutes evidence, fact and worthwhile opinion (but then I would, wouldn't I ;))
