I totally forgot about these cars!! Driving on the highway the other eveing on the way home from work in traffic, up pulls a yellow one. Very cool looking machine. Future collectible for sure.

I know, parts bin car, with an LHS engine etc, apparently they don't drive like they look, and are a bucket of marbles. Bt what a cool looking machine!! I did drive one a long time ago, but can't even remotely remember the experience. Any of you ever owned one?

They are really great looking cars, truly candy to the eyes, but no manual gear box assured me of never owning one. Always thought they were really cool though.

A friend's dad had a purple one growing up. That tough SOB sure deserved a cool car. He was a vice cop in Chicago and got ambushed by a spray of gun fire serving a no knock warrant as he entered the door; this was well before I knew him. Both his legs and knees were shot up pretty good. He never regained full walking ability, but he really toughed it out with a cane. He never missed a baseball game or practice and always tried to help out coach when he could. Great guy.

Crappy powertrain killed what could have been a really cool car.

Total poser car. Hated by hot rodders. No V8? What were they thinking? The Chevy SSR had the same problem-- if you want a hot rod, buy a hot rod.

If it had come with a manual and a V8 I would have owned one.

I would agree with that when they were new. But I'm not so sure anymore. The retro rod is commanding big money..modern suspension and engine with the old school body and interior.
Which is pretty much exactly what this car is. V8 and a six speed would have defiantly made this car an icon, but still it's a production car made in limited numbers.

Cool look. Some cool ideas in the design. But horrible to drive. Not fun to work on. Not slow by any means, but all the power in the world doesn't make up for the lack of rumble in a hot rod. Has lots of cowl shake, very nervous on bumpy roads.

Really cool to look at, but I'd honestly rather drive a classic pick up. Think they even handle better...

There is an SSR out here that will pretty much shame everyone. STS turbo system, 6.0, fast as hell, but the ugliest thing I have ever seen.

The Prowler is one of the worst looking cars ever built, IMO. I don't know how the same company that built the Viper could have let the Prowler roll off the assembly line. It's loaded with plastic.

Umm..I don't think it's ugly by any means. And you could compair the quality to that of the early vipers. They were not much better, infact they were plain awful in the build quality department. I like the thing because one of the big three had the balls to actually build a car like that.

I agree. It was not what people expected/hoped for: a loud hot rod with a V8
But i think people are starting to accept it for what it is: a nice, fun, unique weekend cruiser

    never quite "got" that car

if you want a hot rod....buy/build one

"mass produced hot rod" is an oxymoron

I like them. I think they are much better looking than most "hot rods". I think they were built to draw attention to the company, which they did. They certainly make for a cool cruisin' car. I love seeing one out on the road! I've seen plenty of customs & such at car shows with weak chev 305's & a bunch of chrome bits added, but hey, they were V-8's ;)

They are pretty neat cars for cruising around town. I think they could have done a better job making the ride tighter because the cars have a loose feeling to them. However, that might be on par with what the designers were going for.

I had one briefly and there was a lot to like about it. I thought the styling was great especially when you removed the DOT front bumpers. But I could never get past the Powertrain esp. the auto trans. It really needed a stick and a small V8 would have been even better.

You can say a real hotrod is better, but you can't get a nice one for Prowler money and the Prowler was totally reliable with good A/C

Great side view, especially low cut convertible top.
Silly that it has that big rear body with no trunk (really!)
The use of the name Plymouth at the beginning ws a bad choice, didn't they know Plymouth was dying?
Choice of weak engine was because they needed the drivetrain already approved; so it's only a poser car.
You really have to hand it to Chrysler for chutzpah, tho, making a factory built hot rod, their own ';little deuce roadster so to speak. And the die cast frame, brilliant. I got a lot of looks and through rubbery fand over flexible, it was pleasant to drive. The damn gas needle bounced from half full to empty so I wonder what that is all about.

Even tho they made 14,000 or more of them I think they are collectable because when is another Detroit automaker goind to do something so wild?

Your father and other policeman are true heroes. They risk their life for people they do not even know.

When I was in college on spring break I went to Boston for a little decent fun. Well I got mugged, hit with a crow bar. They took $16 and the radio from my very old Valiant.

The plate I have in my head and the other medical issues are a constant reminder. Anyway there were three men and one policement saw it happen and he came to my rescue with a gun drawn. He may have saved my life but I always wonder how he is and I hope is having the good life he gave me and he deserves.

God bless your father sand people like him

    Warmest feelings,

    Lee

My next door neighor has one. No power with 6 cylinders. He had trouble not knocking off the front fenders.

It may become a collector car because it is unique. Some people may not care about the power. Maybe the light weight makes it satisfying to drive.

I have never driven one so I do not know how they handle. Maybe someone owns or has owned one and can talk to that and compare it to cars some of us may have experience with.

I mean, you could say the Vega, Maverick, and Yugo are collector cars too because they are kind of jokes and not many in good shape around.

I real collector car is one that was either extremely hard to get new or under appreciated much later after production stopped. The Ford GT is a bit like that. These make good collector cars. The others are just "novelties".

I think the Prowler will always be a novelty.

You brought up bad memories. I had a vega, no redemming features at all, Just crap! The bad thing was I traded in a BMW 2002 Tii for the car.

You are most likely right on the prowler. I would not own one. But they are unique in styling. Which I do not like either. Hard to tell for sure.

Some people may love them, alright maybe not :) But it is possible

I've always felt the Prowler was for the guy who would like to own a plastic car model kit but wouldn't because it was too much work to make it.
