I am so stupid. I was mounting my GoPro on my rear bumper so I can record some beautiful exhaust notes on my 09 California. I only have one key! Previous owner lost the 2nd key. I closed the trunk and left my key in there. Now I see all the amber lightS up except on the front driver's seat. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?! Can my local dealer get it open? Or I have to special order one from Modena Ferrari!??!?! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DON'T HAVE THE KEY CARD ALSO!!!!!!

    HELP!!!!!

The dealer can open it. If you're a member (and you should be!) call AAA and see if they can send over a locksmith to unlock it.

One thing they can do is jimmy the doorlock and then you can open the trunk manually from inside.

Otherwise, I think you're screwed until you can call the dealer tomorrow.

Don't panic. Stuff happens. It only costs money to make it right.

Don't worry. These things happen. This may not be a warranty issue but I'm sure they have a way to open it without much trouble.

Let us know how it came out! I'm sure others would be really curious.

You might want to invest in a new spare key. They aren't cheap but.... there you go! :)

As to previous owners "losing" their keys --- I always wonder if they just wanted to keep it as a keepsake.

Will do, I was busy mounting GoPro on the rear bumper to record some launch control exhaust notes. Anyway I'll post how dealer open the door and the video.

man, dealer said they cannot do anything except ordering a new key. ( on it's way )
They said I could either break the window or break the lock.

can a recent vintage Ferrari door be opened by "jimmying" ? Is there a before or after date by which one can or cannot open a door with a "slim jim" ( break in )

the reason for asking, is a few years back keys ( all 3 sets by wife ) were locked in. The locksmith made comments that some cars were difficult or impossible to break into without doing damage within the door. The manufacturers had made efforts to make the cars more theft proof.

can current Ferraris be unlocked with a normal key... just to gain access ( to recover locked keys )... a normal key without electronics and programming should have nominal cost.

Did you try the suggestion in another thread to climb through the rear seats into the trunk?

Some Ferraris have an emergency pull cord inside the gas filler door but of course the car needs to be unlocked to access it.

They don't 'jimmy' the door much anymore, last locksmith I called put an air bladder into the top of the door frame/roof juncture, and pumped it up the reach in a pop the door handle.

He was quick at it too!!

I woulnd't be to sure on that one...

We had the same happen with a 2010 Audi A4 last year, and I suggested breaking the window and unlock it.

Turns out the car has a 'deadlock' system and if the window gets broken to fix the problem would cost the best part of 5K...

    ay ay ay.
I would think a locksmith could pick the lock. That totally blows. I know you're kicking yourself, but I would never take delivery of a car without both keys. If not available, then the replacement is paid by the seller. I am sure that key is going to cost a couple of pennies!

I recommend calling some locksmiths and ask if they can pick the lock. Most won't do it as it takes forever and requires a lot of skill, but you may find one that will do it. I would NOT let anyone try to "jimmy" the lock open -- a wire may get snagged and pulled loose. (Locksmiths have books showing the internal structures of car doors to help them avoid wires, but I doubt that they have the California in their books...)

    Good luck!

I'm a bit confused... Every contemporary Ferrari I've seen has fail safes for this situation, as long as you still have access to the cockpit. There are pull cords for the fuel fuller cap, the hood, and the trunk - often times, you'll need to release one in order to get to another, but it can be done. Check the driver's side foot well for a pull cord and pull it; if it releases the fuel filler cap, check inside there for another pull cord, and it if releases the hood, check there. If it released the trunk, problem solved.

The last time I called pop-a-lock the guy had the door open before I had finished saying "Thanks for coming so quickly."

There's a locksmith here in Texas that posts on 308 Section key threads.

He has the Ferrari Code books too, maybe not on California though??
Sorry I cannot recall his log in name ...

Your key codes are in your books?
    Are they in the trunk?

You're telling me a locksmith can't crack the manual lock on the door or the trunk? That seems really odd.

what is the current procedure to introduce a new key ( programable ) to a Ferrari ?

it used to be that ALL programable keys needed to be present during a programing session, as any previously good keys not present would be disabled

Is the car locked or just the trunk?

I thought the Cali had a pass thru from the back seat to the trunk. So if you can get into the car you should be able to get the key. Good luck.

The pass through must be opened from within the trunk.
