Good info there. Man I am really praying for a cracked cover now. I should know more tomorrow. I hope it runs stronger when I get all the nasty rubber out of the tank and replaced.
https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/so-you-want-to-work-on-your-ferrari-but-are-scared-to-death.619276/page-4 I am now building a simple fastening from a wide perforated sheet strip
I don't know the time involved but I got charged $1000 years ago to remove the tank, the most messy part is to drain the fuel.
Thanks man. This I suppose this repair needs to happen eventually so I just hope it gets done right. Blackhorse is a top notch shop here in LA, so I am very lucky in that regard. At least injectors are cheap if I need them. At some point I will ship the shocks to Delta Vee and the car will pretty much be 100% sorted (I hope)....but their turn-around time is ridiculous. Just spoke to Blackhorse and yep, the damn gas tank is coming out to determine the root of the gas smell. I assume the job just got considerably more expensive. I seriously hope any needed valve/gaskets/etc...are not unobtainable. They did indicate that I would have it back on Monday, so that is a plus.
You called it. Do you remember if Carl worked on your car ? He thought my black 456 was one that he had once worked on before.
Jeff, my car is 550, I never had 456 and I don't remember the name of the person owned the business at the time, overall it wasn't a good experience.
It would come and go which may indicate the valve/gaskets identified above. Figure I just added another K to the repair.
Jeff, Fabio recommend securing the support in place by pipe clamp otherwise pump may move out, do you have a picture of finished one. Thanks, Sark
I do not and he made no such recommendation. I know the holder for the 456m is a different size than the others for the 456/550 but again, I communicated with a Fabio several times, he supplies them locally in Italy and made no mention of using a pipe clamp.
Hello, For fix the pump on my support is necessary use a usual screw clamp for water pipes that you can purchase in a normal car parts shop, attached to this enmail two picture sof my support and a image from the spare parts catalogue whre is shown all the fuel pump assembly, You have a nice day. Fabio.
Well this went sideways quick, Fabio just texted me to tell me this into too. is it a big deal ? Problem is they installed his part last week without this additional information. How screwed am I (if at all) ? Is this something I could count on a Good Ferrari Mechanic to know they should sort ?
Sorry, I just find out this morning when I asked him about the installation after I purchased the pump support , these are the pictures he sent me. The clamp has to be stainless steal so hopefully it doesn't rust in gas. Time will tell us about this product, Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you, those pics help, I just informed the shop. Hopefully they just reused the old ones assuming that is possible. See you around LA someday man.
I bought the Fabio gasket for my 1995 456GT. I am having trouble getting the screen basket over the hose clamp. Has anyone done one of these on a 456 and do you have advice or pics? Emailed Fabio and he said I need to rotate it 180 degrees and invert it. I do not see how I would be able to use the basket that way. Fits together real nice without the hose clamp in the way. I didnt end up using the hose clamp. Once it was secured onto the basket the piece fit the contours of the fuel pump, that i didnt see the need. Nor did the fitment make any sense. Once it was back together i couldn't see how any movement would happen in the bucket anyhow Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Right but not sure what you are getting at.... Clamshell is to get over the two groove bumps on the pump.
The screw clamp is used on the 1 piece design because there are no bumps on that pump. Pump just looks thinner, as does the Fabio part
