Pista Exhaust Upgrade

I still think the benefits of an X pipe are there as far as sound. Not from a volume perspective, but quality. It seems that HFCs are required to even scratch as the surface of sound potential.

 

I would tend to agree but the best way of establishing this would be to fit the kline x with mufflers and see if it improved the note first before changing the cats out.

Looks like my 200 cell cats are finally arriving Monday

 

The exhaust is supposed to arrive some time next week....I'm told. I will be installing ASAP.

Issue with that is that here in Europe, you'd be black flagged at most tracks at the gate. Fine for city cruising and attention, but not worth much if one plans on tracking at the GP trackdays.

Here in the west coast, Laguna Seca is notorious for meat balling loud cars too. But they do have no sound limit days or high sound limit days occasionally. Even my Speciale with HFCs + IPE F1 Ti exhausts did ok at 105dB days. Forget 90dB or 95dB days though.

 

I wonder how much difference in sound 200 vs 100 vs decat makes.

 

I can't see that much... Plus, if you to 100 cell you will need a tune or something to fool the ECU. I dont think a minicat or bund extension will do the trick. Ferraris are known to be sensitive.

 

I’m intrigued by Capristo’s twin flow design. 200cell, but is supposed to act like a straight through pipe or something and typically not cause a CEL, though there is no guarantee. I will have to give them a call to learn more. Otherwise Novitec 100 with the Tectronic.

Welp, turns out the F8 demo car I drove had its valves pinned. No wonder it sounded surprisingly good.

 

How did they have the valves pinned without a check engine light? I was told by service manager that you can’t pin the valves open on a F8 because of new sensors that will set off a check engine light.

Apparently one of the master techs [italian guy that used to work at the factory in maranello for ages] figured it out. He left my dealership during the decline of service business during past several months. Not sure where he landed now as many of the folks left as they downsized the service group.

I got word of it while speaking to one of the guys working there after driving the Roma and commenting the sound of it.

That’s very interesting. The valves are electronically controlled rather than by vacuum as in previous cars which makes it a lot harder to deal with . Good to hear it can be defeated with no check engine lights.
