While on a trip to Peru in South America, I tried a new brandy called Pisco and love it! They make a tasty drink called a pisco sour which is smoother than a margarita and more enjoyable. My Peruvian friends gifted me a fine bottle of aged Pisco and I learned how to make Pisco drinks back home. For something refreshing and different, try Pisco!

Is that Pisco made in Peru or Chile? It originated in a town called Pisco, Peru. But now is very popular in Chile. There is a difference though, in Chile its made with all sorts of grape bits, seeds and stems and skins, in Peru its just made with actual grape juice.

The Pisco Sour is delicious, but you can try with just tonic water for an interesting drink as well.

Each country thinks that they have the better Pisco and right to the invention. Because of changes in the borders over the years, they're both probably right.

Picso sours are a great aperitif but I've never brought any home despite literally dozens of trips to both countries over the years. I tend to prefer the Peru style Pisco sour.

I don't know if it is one of those things that always tastes better in its home location or whether I just want to keep it a Peruano and Chileno experience.

Well I have had both types of Pisco from trips to Peru and Chile. My Peruvian friends gave me a fine bottle of Peruvian Pisco which is quite delicious. So far I've enjoyed it.

The Cooking Channel just re-ran an episode of the Thirsty Traveler which featured Pisco and Peru. Looks like great stuff.
