Well crap, I even stayed around the house in hopes of catching the race. :(
NASCAR is used to being the only big player in the game. Their management style is simply you play along with them - or don't play at all. However - now they've taken over a series that is easier for competition to take over. Their attitude will result in those that don't want to play NASCAR's game going to other places, as there actually are other places to run.
I went to watch the race and all I saw was this I don't know if they showed the stadium trucks on TV but they put on a great show for those that stayed through the rain. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will say that was the loudest Cadillac I've ever heard Oh and I hate shooting through a fence. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
you know what? I don't care. SCCA had a golden opportunity to really trump TUSC with their huge field of badass GT3 spec cars. but they cancelled yesterday's race (OK maybe not entirely their decision), but Stadium Trucks and F2000 managed to run... I think they would have been OK... and they *knew* they were going to get a ton of online watchers and couldn't figure it out. well, screw 'em. they can have badass races in the dark, or at noon on Tuesdays. if you want an audience you have to do what you say you're going to do, then make it accessible.
WC just grasped defeat from the jaws of victory with a lot of potential TUSC refugees. This is like running out of fuel in a race due to incorrect planning. We had a race, in the USA, with a Lambo, Ferrari, BMW and McLaren on the grid going head to head, and they flub it.
ha - No on twitter, funny coincidence. In this case, there are only a few terms that fit this situation BTW feed JUST NOW started working. Unreal
same here. I guess enough people bailed and it freed up bandwidth? can't believe it's still green with two cars stopped on course.
uh, I had same thought. Those cars are just sitting there waiting for someone to have a big one. Either of those cars would have been 30min Safety Cars in a TUSC race. Hard to tell from the (very limited) views if those cars were in an impact zone, but my little experience on street circuits is that EVERYWHERE is an impact zone
If a car managed to get there, that car is in an impact zone the Mercedes would have been hard to get to, but that blue Mustang made my heart skip a beat...that was sketchy. I understand wanting to stay green for a good finish, but man...one bad move and that could have been a huge shunt.
I wouldn't give them too hard of a time for finishing us under green. We had a longer drivers meeting on Friday and Geoff Carter told us he was going to let us race and use the local cautions whenever possible. The Mustang was in a pretty bad spot in terms of effecting lap time (turn in point for the kink) but once we went by them a few times all the drivers knew where they were and drove appropriately under the local yellows. There were also cars off in the runoff and instead of retrieving them, they kept us green. As a driver, I think it was a great way to finish. Not perfect because the local yellows did really cut down on the passing zones, but way better than finishing behind a safety car. -mike
nice run Mike I agree it was nice to stay green vs. FCY but I thought it was a bit too far towards risk on the risk/reward scenario.
Missed the race yesterday- mixed & set 36 x 60 lbs bags of concrete. I read some notes from the race last night and looking forward to watching the re-broadcast when it appears.
they put it up on their website last night. great racing. now they just need to figure out a proper live streaming, or live TV coverage, package. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoORb_mgzuQ]2014 Pirelli World Challenge Cadillac Grand Prix of St. Petersburg - YouTube[/ame]
Great race. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the season. Although, I agree with Chas, they need to figure out live streaming/live TV.
