Does anyone have experience with Pirelli Trofeo R tires on a 458 on the track. I ordered a set today and wanted some starting pressure advice. I usually start my Michelin super sports at 29 or 30 but am told with R spec tires to start significantly lower. Any advice

I'm in the same shoes and have been searching this matter. However, not many people track their 458s so it is difficult to collect correct info.

My friend put Trofeo-r tires on his 458 italia with modified alingment. First of all, trofeos need higher camber front and rear. Stock camber for front is around -0,8; Rear is around -1,3. They should be around at least -2,0 front and rear. With the shims it is only possible to increase camber by -0,9. So it is also important to lower the car little, but I don't know how much. Therefore, not only the tire pressures are important.

As for the pressure, I was told to stay between 28-30 psi hot. So cold pressure should be around 25 which is a little low, IMO.

I'm waiting unofficial track setup for my italia from the Factory to put on Trofeo Rs in September. Unofficially, we were advised to lower Scuderia by 10 mm which gave great results on the race track.

I did add 2mm shims to the front and only got an increase of .3 degrees by doing so, I ended up with about 1.2 degrees negative camber on the front and I know I need to add more. I will continue to work on it and if I get good results will report back to you on the camber issue and any tire pressure results. I understand the Pirelli Trofeos are made at the Turkey plant that makes the F1 tires. Let me know if you get some results and we will try to come up with the best setup for these tires.

It is early with my new Trofeo R tires on my Italia. Have yet to go to track with these. Will go this weekend. But I feel at higher speeds 160 km/hr and higher the car seems to be bouncy (i.e. I feel like I am moving up and down). It could just be the rougher ride as compared to my previously smooth michelin super sports but I am not sure. Is it normal? I feel my normal michelins were more relaxed at high speed.
I got trofeo r tires installed at dealer with 25000 kms on my car and they did an alignment, no idea about details though.

My cold pressures have been 30-31.

I run them on a 355 (COTA & TWS Track) and you want a 29 psi +/- 1 PSI HOT Max, so I would start at 25 PSI and go up from there. Really depends on how you drive and the track, if it's hard on tires or not? They Really Grip! Get a really good pressure gauge.

    Ciao,

Any issues with the onboard electronic systems and the extra grip from the tires? I would think not but I am curious.

I have heard of one case with serious issues. He put all four speciale tires on his 458 spider. He had to remove them and put back normal pirellis. I imagine that was because speciale tires are a different size. I don't see any issue with the trofeos if they are the size specified for the italia/spider.

I am using trofeo r tires with oem rear and 245 in the front.Sport mode doesnt work over 100 km because of different rolling diameter. But if you use race or ct off in the street it is actually very comfortable thanks to its soft rubber.
Make sure to use them only in track otherwise they will be finished within 3-5k miles.

This actually surprises me. Your fronts are off by only 1.1% compared to oe. The size difference you have, should not pose any problems, as this difference could occur on stock tyres due to wear. I don't recall which member it was here, but the guy put MPSC2 Speciale tyres on his Spider and changed to 325/30R20 rears due to the problems mentioned above, and from what he posted, he has no issues. The size difference he is running is much greater than yours. Have you measured the circumference of the tyres with a tape measure? I mean, even brands have different diameters for the same tyre that can be close to the difference you have. This might be a dumb question, but the shop that did your wheels, haven't somehow made a mistake and installed 295/30R20 or 305/30R20 tyres instead of the oe 295/35R20 size?

I also used 245/35 - 295/30 tire setup and has no problem with the ECU or the traction control.

I would have thought this would not be an issue but I remember reading BurakUsta's report...

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but are you sure that is not 295/35R20? The diameter of the rear size you mention is way off from the OEM Italia/Spider rears, and what people have been reporting problems with, going to Speciale size tyres, being that the Speciale rears are 305/30R20. The diameter difference between the tyres on a 458 Italia/Spider is 1.6 or 1.5 inches front to rear, depending on the use of MPSS or Pirelli PZero. You are talking about a diameter difference of 0.1-0.2 inches depending on brand and model.

I don't track my 458, but I do track my GT3. In my GT3, I used the original Trofeo, and now use the Trofeo R. You want to reach 30 PSI hot. That means starting the day at 24 PSI or 25 PSI cold, taking it easy for a few laps, especially during the first session. As soon as you come into the pits after the first session, check the tire pressure, and set it to 30 PSI. Do it after every session since the track surface will get warm throughout the day. I highly recommend them, and while not a slick, they are as close to a slick as you are going to get for an R compound tire.

I just finished a track weekend for the first time with my new trofeo R tires. I would say when taking a street car to the track any thing less than semi slicks puts you at a disadvantage. Given my weekend experience I doubt I will take a car to track again without semi slicks. They just stick so much more. I felt my driving was up a notch. And since it was a ferrari event I had an edge over all the cars except the speciales. I started with cold temps 24-25 and they went 30-32 when hot. An awesome experience compared to my previous original factory tires michelin super sports.

My gt3 is arriving in a couple of weeks, thankfully it will also have semi slicks from the factory.

Sorry my bad; it is 295/35. My mind goes to 305/30 size of speciale.
I'll switch to 305 tires once Pirelli releases 305/35. They have this size for P Zero but not yet for Trofeo.
