I have noticed that some 308 have the pininfarina badge only on the driver side other cars only on the passager side. Some cars have badges on both sides.

Do you have any information about the original factory configuration ? (glass cars, steel cars, LHD, RHD, US / EU .....)

    Regards

    Alex

Early 308's in Fibreglass had the badge on the RH side on both LH and RH drive cars for all markets.

Steel bodied cars had the badge on one side only(LH side) irregardless of which side the steering wheel was on

When I say LH or RH side take that as in view from standing in the rear of the car looking forward! Any car with badge on both sides is not factory spec.

I doublechecked this with my extensive collection of 308 Brochures....

    Hope this helps,

    Pete

Bear in mind that you will find exceptions, since the final assembly was by hand. There are numerous examples of different script for the badging, different guage placement, and even different tail light layout - orange lights inboard vs. outboard.

Try as we might to figure out the pattern and the 'proper' configutation of these things, at the end of the day sometimes it comes down to how many glasses of wine "Luigi" had for lunch that day.

Why didn't Ferrari made it standard and put it on both side for all 308s?

    My guess:

Like an artist signing a painting, they sign it in one place either left or right at the bottom but not both.

Pete,I have seen and have a qv with the badge on both sides,I did a survey and found about 12% of the cars polled had them on bothsides. you see alot of the time they did what ever on the factory line. Just like inside on the fuse cover you'll find some of the qv's have the imblem gtsi instead of gts, thats because they used up anything that was avalible,I followed my car to the original owner and it was on both sides when delived.go figure?

What is *correct*? Orange in or orange out? Mine are out, though I always thought it somewhat peculiar.

That placement looks correct to me, in fact, it looks like a factory "model". :p

As far as I know, all the orange rear direction indicator lights must be placed outside. No orange lights "inside" placement on the production line.

And about the Bigtex factory "model", it would be nice to have it on the flesh... ;-))))))))

    I am now sad...

BTW, my 308 has only one Pininfarina badge, on the left side, as expected.

    Hi Mike

I had a relative working at the Ferrari factory at the time1983-1984.

When I mentioned this to him his response was to laugh his head off.... He reckons they were such "tightasses" at the time, there was no way a 308 QV left the factory standard with two badges at the time due to the extra $ of the second badge. He tells me a lot of parts were sourced based on "Whoever was the cheapest" at the time!!

Here in OZ I have never seen a 308 of any year with two badges in my time!

I suspect that cars with two badges in the USA were a case of "dealer fit"???

However I agree with you about Ferrari using whatever was available at the time... If you look at 1983 308 qv'S for example, they used the same cigarette lighter as the 308i 2V cars, yet in 1984 they went to a different type.

    Cheers

    Pete

well Pete, like I said if you do a search I did a poll on who has one or two badges and I was surprize on how many came with two. even if I wanted to leave just one would mean to take off the right side fill the two tiny holes and repaint the side,I don't think I'm doing that. and I hope your relative don't laugh to hard might lose his breath.

    Mike ,

I hope your not offended in any way by my post nor am I suggesting you or any other owner should remove their badge!

We all love our cars just the way they are!!

I was merely relaying information for anyone who miught be interested. I also referenced Bluemel's book on the 308 ,my original US and world market brochures for all 308 model's from the 'glass' cars to the QV's. They all indicate one badge is factory spec in the positions mentioned for the various models!

Personally I reckon 2 badges looks a whole lot better myself.....

    Cheers,

    Pete
