I love darkish rooms full of wood on floors, walls, and even ceilings. studies, libraries, game rooms, trophy rooms, bars, man caves etc. here is pic of a room at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. Image Unavailable, Please Login
wish i had stil pics from an office job i did, made fully paneled, coffered ceiling panels today with wood prices, that job would have cost twice, or more $ here's a 1566 room ...i really like ornate carving work, or even if not a whole room, just a bar done up can look great! Rob, you may want to look at the Arts & Crafts style for homes; typically a lot of wood throughout. http://artsandcraftshomes.com/arts-crafts-woodwork-trim/ http://artsandcraftshomes.com/house-styles-the-bungalow/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
love it ^^ parquet floors, plank tongue & groove paneling, grain matching, contrastingg staining ....now if i could spend my work days doing just that!
hey, that's close enough to NOLA ...if were moved there already i'd offer to come help, technically a finishing carpenter by trade, but renos is what make$ right now ...but we're tied to here for the near future if you have leads on a decent finishing carpenter, they actually have quite a few prefinished flooring and paneling options out there now, even for pillars and coffered ceilings, that would allow building that look, without building from scratch, literally ....and so the cost would be much more reasonable several years back i did a basement reno where i painted the walls in a dark red suede finish paint (trick, but came out impressively) and 1/2 height recessed oak panelling (like wainscoting) and coffered look ceiling ...there are some great combinations that would look great

It takes my breath away every time I see it.. Must find Pics.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed Edgar Kaufman's office: Best pic I could find is in black and white: http://www.wallchan.com/images/sandbox/21321-wright-edgar-kaufmann-office-flw-kaufman-office.jpg To give you an idea of the color: http://images2.bridgemanart.com/cgi-bin/bridgemanImage.cgi/400wm.BAL.79170.7055475/4018.jpg . . . of the texture: http://explorepahistory.com/kora/files/1/2/1-2-136A-25-ExplorePAHistory-a0l0e5-a_349.jpg http://www.franklloydwright.com/browse.cfm/4,2184.html About 72 years ago . . . (this interior was moved to London, I think.) If you're looking for design inspiration, modern megasailboat interiors feature interesting wood tones, grains and textures: http://www.superyachttimes.com/images/5/277/pic2.jpg http://www.yachtsmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/NautorsSwan105-Salon.jpg http://www.charterworld.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/BALTIC-112-Sailing-yacht-Canova-Interior.jpg http://www.boat-for-sale.info/wp-content/uploads/2008-nautor-swan-90--5.jpg http://www.yachting-intelligence.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/AB-116-Yacht-Interior.jpg
Your second paragraph sounds like my plan for my home office. There's a Ralph Lauren paint called leather that's quite interesting, along the lines of what you described. Do you have any leads or links to some of the pre-finished flooring and paneling options? Thanks!
true dat, boats are wonderful in traditional wood work, beautiful stuff! i haven't done the leather technique on large surface area, but it wasn't do hard, not nearly as the suede faux technique (took longer than i expected to make correct) the panel sets i buy are through my local supplier source (in my case windsor plywood store), depending on what style you are specifically looking for, which will be different in your part of the country, but that would be my first suggestion to look, as they will have catalogs and even floor samples for you to look at ...you'll have to specifically say you are not wanting bead-board or wainscoting, but solid paneling for flooring, do you already have wood floors...some people suggest engineered flooring, but my guys can do solid maple for cheaper than EF! even with good quality laminate, i've seen it wear in a single spot use (like wheeled office chair) so i would go the solid wood route personally depending on what you're trying to do, i always suggest my clients put together a collection of pictures for me, rooms or ideas they like (magazine clips or online pics printed) ....it makes a huge difference & helps us together "see" exactly what they are wanting to do ....if it's 1/2 wall paneling, then even a simple 1/4 board with chair-rail + base-shoe & ribs between can be done without a kit ...coffered ceiling can be duplicated, in my case we made the boxes from 1/2 G1S mitred to fit all corners tight, then stained in-place/hung, and inset panels same material i love the warmth of woodwork in any home, not alot of renos include due to price, last true solid wood doors i installed was a 1/2 basement build ...sadly, after my suggestions of pickled white to finish, client (wife actually) wanted opaque white, oh well! for a carpenter (my very first biz was painting actually) i am doing a lot of tile work lately Image Unavailable, Please Login
you got me curious now, only a few pics i could find online Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
He got me curious as well, ha! when it comes to interior design europe and the u.s. are very different. we have so many old castles and buildings with dark wooden ceilings in good old europe. we do not have to build new ones.
