I've got nearly 20 hours of flight time in the next week and half. Excited to finally contribute to this thread lol
I was invited on a little press junket with a 4 seater Cirrus. The only plane manufactured with a built in parachute. Pretty cool if you pilot kicks the bucket during the flight (they could have used this in Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World.) I caught the initial flight in Hagerstown, we flew up to PA and landed at an airport right next to a nuclear plant, picked up 2 more passengers then we flew up to NY, up the Hudson at 1500 ft, landed at White Plains, switched to another Cirrus, flew up to Sarasota Springs, had lunch and went to the Car museum there, then flew back. This time we got permission to fly around the lady at 900 feet. Much fun! ken Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool. I have always wondered why they can just put a couple huge parachutes on commercial planes?
No, Russian. The exercise was a simulated hijack escort over the Pacific. The US transferred escort to Russia as the exercise aircraft flew west. Two fighters, tanker, and AWC on both sides. http://www.norad.mil/news/2010/081010.html
Couple I have on my computer 1 - old railway bridge washed out (somewhere in northern BC) 2 & 3 - flying across NZ at ~10,000' in a Helicopter. 4 - what a great road for a hill climb! Hadn't really thought of posting this one until I posted it in silver in another thread. Life at Flight Level 570: Image Unavailable, Please Login
What plane is that? I always figured business jets maxed at 50,000 or thereabouts and anything above would have to be very special.
Here are a couple I have taken over the years http://www.planespotters.net/Aviation_Photos/photo.show?id=015148 http://www.planespotters.net/Aviation_Photos/photo.show?id=022432
It was a 100 passenger commuter jet that they ended up retiring in 2003 due to poor fuel mileage and high maintenance cost. It was pretty quick, though.
I saw one sitting on display at CDG a couple of weeks ago. Looked tiny! Wish I could have flown in it once.
LOL, nice. Should have known. Didn't realize it was a pic from back then. I'm glad I got to see it on several occasions (never in flight, but taxing) at JFK and CDG. Looked awesome in person. Wish I could've gone for a ride in it, but oh well. One way (or roundtrip?) was "only" $10,000 I think when I checked back then. Figured it would be more since 1st class on the 747s could get up that high depending on city and booking date.

I shot this series of images from planes and helicopters in Alaska, most of them are facing straight down. Burton USA recently picked up a few of these for their 2011/2012 AK jacket line, if any of you guys enjoy winter sports you can see these images printed on jackets this season http://www.behance.net/richardthompson/frame/278744
