Agree 100%... Saw an A-380 in the pattern. Looked so slow that it looked like it was going to fall out of the sky any minute.
I know it clocking 150 mph, but it looks like it's almost hovering.

"hovering".....That was always my reaction seeing the C-5's.......virtually hovering in the air, barely moving forward......in reality moving along smartly.

What did you use for a camera plane?

I'm getting my airplane painted next month, and am thinking about doing an air-to-air shoot.

    It was a 182.
The pod under the wing is a weather radar.

Landing at Mountain Air 2NCO in an Airbus Eurocopter. I was lucky enough to ride in the back. What an experience! Flew in from 7A8.

A shot of our friend, Tom Curry, taking off from Mountain Air 2NCO recently in his SR22. A thunderstorm had just passed through.

Biloxi back bay.... we don’t usually cruise down the coast as far as Pensacola on local flights just because there is a lot of other traffic. It’s mostly either around the immediate local area or out in the middle of the gulf. If anybody is ever in the area and wants to meet up and hear about the USAF Hurricane Hunter mission send me a message.

Shot I took of a WC-130J doing some approaches just ahead of a thunderstorm rolling through this afternoon.

You probably wouldn’t like some of the stuff we fly through.... worst lightning I have seen was Tropical Storm Nestor in the gulf last year. Surprising enough the plane only got hit once on that flight.

When we lived on Siesta Key on the Gulf Coast we saw a lot of electrical storms like those in your video. Our home was never hit but we had strikes some times within yards of us.. Another thunderstorm hot spot is Chesapeake Bay. I wrote about one that struck one of our B-17's on its way to Langley Field. They can be wild and magnificent. My mom and I would sit on the screened porch and watch them sometimes. She loved them.

I was in a 767 once that was in a holding pattern outside of ATL waiting for storms to clear the airport. Even though we were outside of the clouds, we were hit by lightning on the left wingtip. I saw the flash and could immediately hear the thunder inside the airplane. I had dull thoughts about the Pan Am 707 in an identical situation in 1963 over Maryland that was destroyed by a similar lightning strike.

Conversely, I was in a 737 descending towards Cincinnati once where we flew through clouds surrounded by numerous lightning flashes, but nothing ever hit the airplane.

I've had two lightning strikes in the CL 44. The best one hit the nose and burned a 1/8 in hole in it. The windshields lit up like the blue on a tv set for about two or three seconds. The second one hit the top of the tail and did only a very little damage. The mechanics always looked at us funny when we came back with lightning damage.
A rule of thumb-if you can hear thunder over the roar of four RR Tyne motors you are too close.
