When you do that do you edit them at all? Do you add your watermark? Edit colors? Edit out license plates? Any, all or none of the above?

For that group, I edit colors only if they really need it but I don't do anything else. I usually take 300 or more photos at those events and it would take forever to edit all of them. I need to find a program that will automatically add my watermark to all the photos in a folder with just a few clicks of the mouse. I'm not sure if anything like that exists.
Mike I did a search for batch watermarking and came up with a link to this tutorial on how to do it in photoshop http://photoshop911.typepad.com/help/2004/04/watermarking_ph.html You will note that one person there recommends this product: http://www.picture-shark.com/ This is just what I found and I have no personal experience with watermarking.

For watermarks I use fast stone photo resizer: http://faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm Lets you rename, resize, add watermark (image or text), convert file types, pretty much anything for batches of files with only a few clicks. Has worked well for me.
The BIG one just came. Canon has just released their EOS-1D Mk III with 10FPS for a consecutive 110 pictures in burst mode, along with their first LIVE view mode, with 5X and 10X zooming capabilities. It's 10.1 MP, full frame (of course), etc. Here is a video of it in burst mode: http://youtube.com/watch?v=m8h2AMllP0Y -John

I was just looking at this yesterday. It is not full frame, but has a 1.3x focal length conversion factor (instead of the 1.6x like Rebel, etc.) It cannot use the EF-S series lenses, it needs the full frame EF lenses (unless Canon releases another lens series.)
Do any of you have experience with slide/negative scanners? I have many slides and negatives that I wish to convert, looking at various scanners. Any recommedations?
I have a Nikon Coolscan V ED. It's excellent, and does a great job on both slides and negatives (color & B+W). It has built-in software that restores damaged images and is very easy to use. Images can be saved either as JPEGs or TIFFs. I've had mine a couple of years, but I think I paid about 750 bucks for it.
I second this. I converted all my negatives last year using one of these. I thought I would go for maximum resolution, TIFF, big files. It's way too much data. (Really WAY WAY too much data.) I ended up doing JPEGs, which are good enough for most purposes. I indexed each roll by date, and added a text index file for each roll as I digitized them. I can search on subject (or name, or place) and find any photo easily, and if I need deeper color, I can always rescan the negative. It's a big project if you have a lot of film (I had about 350 rolls,) but worth it in the end (I now have spatially redundant copies of my photographic work.) If your time is of any value to you, get the fastest scanner you can afford. The Coolscan V was the fastest at the time I bought it (it also had great reviews and uses LED illumination so the color separation capability won't shift over time, unlike a rotating filter wheel.) I havn't been following the market lately so a search is in order for you.
Oops. Thanks for the correction. I'm not really a Canon person (Nikon is my camera of choice). My bad, John
Cool. I took a similar shot this weekend, but it was an Osprey, not a Baldy. Main problem: blurred due to hand-held panning at 300mm focal length. Image Unavailable, Please Login
