Has anyone mention the fine English (Wabasto?) pull back sunroof?

Is there a city by the name of Portland in Connecticut? The ebay ad says the car is located in Portland, Connecticut. I know of Portlands in Maine and here in Oregon, but in Connecticut?

Nice looking car, but wrong color.

The non-original sunroof really hurts this car. Another original one bites the dust.

Was the sunroof a period modification?

Personally, I think it's kind of cool-- assuming it doesn't leak.

Is the FML API close on this? $115K? $55K a year ago?

Just wondering how much the sunroof hurts value. It would cost mabe $15-20K to put right?

Would you really consider taking the sunroof out? Why?

Actually, I'd rather chop the top and make it a convertible....

I think I'd like it back to original, I think the canvas roll back top looks dopey, but that's just me.

    NO TOOLS, NO BOOKS.

So, let's ask Tom S. What's that gonna set you back after you buy this car?

My 2 cents: The sliding top was contemporary to the car, and was a dealer-installed option. Why does it upset some?

A radio is a dealer installed option. Butchering the roof ruins the originality of the car thereby substantially lowering its value. I think it would be difficult to return it to stock.

In my previous post I really should have posed it as a question. Was the sun-roof really a dealer installed option?

    Thanks, Greg

Hmm, pretty close to the range in this month's issue of Cavallino which is $125 - $175k. The ad did not mention a toolkit or build sheet or owners manuals. Assuming they were not included and assuming some potential buyers might be put off by the sunroof as a non-factory item, the last bid was not too far off. Looks like a nice, clean, straight survivor.

Not too difficult, Greg. The roof is probably one of the easier panels to resurface. It's just a large radius curved panel. Furthermore, with all derelict PF coupes lying around finding a replacement roof shouldn't be hard.

But, if the roof has been with the car since new, it would make more sense to keep it. I would.

If it was a period modification (say if it were installed by the dealer), I'd keep it as it is part of the car's history. Not something I would have done to a new 250GT PF coupe back in the day, but it is a part of this particular car's history, nonetheless.

Oh dear! Again, my gut instinct would be to leave it, but keep in mind I'm one of those odd people who like patina, and as far as old cars are concerned, to leave well enough alone! :D

However, if someone were to sympathetically return into original non-sunroof specification, I would completely understand.

I once saw an Alfa Romeo GTV show up at the race track with a solid roof that had been installed to replace a sunroof. It was very rough, wavy, and a mess, maybe a function of the craftsmanship and could have been better by somebody more skilled. If it were mine, I would keep it the way it is.

This yellow car (post #22) is 0575 GT and the sunroof was installed much later than in the 1950s and not when the car was new. 0575 GT is now being restored, see photos below, the sunroof has been removed and the roof closed. It will be painted all black, the car has an alloy body and a little Swiss hillclimb race history. The entire ownership history has been carefully researched and the build sheets are available. The car is owned by German dealer Mario Bernardi.
