I have a 488 Spyder in yellow. Any ideas for a personalized plate? If you have one, but are not in California I may be able to use your plate idea in California so please list yours.

On the top of the page, next to your username is the search feature. Just do a quick search for vanity. This has been asked numerous times before. Be prepared for a lot of smarta** (and funny) responses.

A long time ago, I once met a mustang owner who had a curious vanity plate like YANKS252. I asked what was the special meaning of the number. He said, "there's no meaning. You know when go to register an email address, but it's already taken and they give you an automated suggestion?" WHAT?!?!

That’s very true and well said. I think that’s also known as an oxymoron.

    Rough crowd today...

First, welcome to the forum Blaine. I've seen you post a few things relating to your Ferrari recently, so I'm sure you're pretty excited about it.

As far as personalized plates.. eh. I personally find it over done on an exotic. To me it just comes off a bit pompous and attention seeking when the car already says a lot just by virtue of being a Ferrari and costing so much. Maybe I'm just getting older and more boring haha.

When I was younger, I had a number of personalized plates - most of which I now regret. I had one on my 355, years ago, which read "INVEST" because I was running a website geared towards stock market traders and investors. A lot of people seemed to respond well to that place. A handful of people left notes on the windshield asking for investment advice or wanting to borrow money haha.

As I get older, I think subtle is better. Just a normal # plate on a Ferrari looks pretty nice from the standpoint of "I was able to resist the temptation to get a cheesy personalized plate" and also "I don't really care what the guy in a Honda or Tesla or Prius behind me thinks anyway". Just my 2 cents.

Best plate I ever saw was back in the early 90's on a Porsche... it said "TRST NO1".

I also saw a super clean / nicely restored classic 911 Porsche cruise by me once back in the late 80's on the highway and the plate merely read "SMPLFY". When paired with the ultra clean classic lines of the vintage 911, it really looks nice I thought.

I dated a girl once from NY and her license plate was "LOV STNX" (aka Love Stinks) . Haha.

For my 458, I tried to get "0001101" - aka 13 in Binary - since 13 is my lucky number and also lucky in Italy - but sadly the DMV doesn't allow all #'s like that.

Anyway, good luck on your personalized plate, if you opt to go that direction.

Since your 488 Spider is yellow you should definitely get the "California 1960s Legacy" plate (https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/vehicle-registration/license-plates-decals-and-placards/california-license-plates/special-interest-license-plates/). Black with yellow lettering.

I have personalized plates on all my cars (including a CA 1960's legacy plate on my red/black 458 Spider) and have had only positive comments. It seems to be a surprisingly polarizing topic on ferrarichat, though. If you come up with something good you can then order custom floor mats from Andrew (https://exoticare.ca/) that match.

    Best of luck,

    Rob

Ask them to radio that in from 200 meters away if you pass an unmarked car a slightly elevated speeds. Impossible to distinguish between numbers and letters:D

    Unwritten rules of vanity plates.

    1. Should NEVER have to be explained.

    2. Should contain a truth, or a direct relation between the owner or car. If it says something that makes you out to be some kind of hot shot, you better be ready to back it up.

I saw a guy who had NVR L0SE on a 991 GTS at a,track day. He was quite upset when his pride and joy was being pulled from the gravel after trying to hang with a severely modified MX5.

I generally find vanity plates a bit tacky. I can accept stuff like RC458 on a red 458, or TT 488 etc. But out in public, vanity plates usually draw the wrong kind of attention.

Want your car keyed? Put stuff like MR BIG, R U 18, WINNER, DIABOLIK, KING, GRLZ4ME and what ever other self-indulgent crap one has seen over the years.

In other words. Think long and hard about this. You may live to regret it.

    My wife’s 911 has “9ELOViN”
My F8 has a regular tag. I was going to do BLISSIMO. But I agreed with some of the other guys here a beautiful Ferrari speaks for itself.

I was trying to tie in the yellow color more than anything. That's why I was looking for ideas.. I wasn't going to do anything like RAD 488 or TOOCOOL . Ha Ha

I knew I needed to get the Legacy Black and Yellow PLates and I think I will just get a no personalized plate.

Nice to see some consistency in car forums. The world throws us a surprise every day (usually bizarre or bad) and i yearn for consistency. Doesn't matter which brand of car, there is always "that guy". Appreciate it!

Good deal, the 60s plate will look great. The yellow lettering matches my brake calipers and shields.

Don't let the forum talk you out of a good personalized plate, though. There is an Audi RS7 I see when running: "USOSLOW." An Audi R8 on my route has: "LATE2ER." I laugh every time I see those cars. They tell me a little bit about the person and the car.

I saw a license plate the other day at the store that was amazing. It was the CA "Kids Specialty License Plate" with a hand on it. The plate read: "I (hand) L RE4U." I normally don't like realtors, but that was pretty impressive.

I was trying to think of something for your car involving "giallo" and "488" or "4RE," but nothing is really working. "YLW 488" seems a little too obvious. Maybe something easy like "488 SPDR." Most people recognize Ferrari, but cannot identify what model you are driving.

First of all, welcome to the club. Congrats.

With my 458, I went with something that attempted to convey where the name 458 comes from:

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

I like it because it's not obvious immediately that it's a vanity plate (unless you are a car enthusiast).

I tried the same exercise with the 488 and it was much tougher. If not something simple like 488GTB or TT 488 like Il Co-Pilota mentioned, I'd probably just stick with the sequential plates.

    Good luck.

Agree here. You can definitely do something that's special to you that no one might know about. For me, I have a few for my BMWs: E92 S65, F85 S63, etc...they look like state issued plates to the general public (they are even stamped like state issued, but that varies from state to state where for some states vanity plates are flat and it's some sort of print), but those in the know will know and it makes it easier to remember. If I ever get around to shoehorning the V8 into my E36 M3, E36 S65 will be the hint to the sleeper within. But anything self aggrandizing is just a recipe for getting keyed and/or hate from others.
