I am putting the sump back on the engine using Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker as suggested by folks on the forum? Does this stuff actual dry?? It's been 12 hours and it's still as tacky - does it cure when the engine heats up...confused?

As the tube says, it is anaerobic. Which means it only cures in the absence of oxygen. Any sealer that has squeezed out when you tightened up the fasteners will not cure, just go around and wipe it off.

The sealer that is between the two castings cures very rapidly, depending on the thickness of the gap it has to fill, usually between 10-30min. That outer edge will stay gooey for a long time.

correct! it's actual design use was for fasteners or screws that did not have blind holes. lock-tite is also an anaerobic sealant.

works great on the large bolt that holds the diff flanges to the output shaft. keeps the trans fluid from leaking out into the CV joint.
