Hey guys, currently on a 2019 Performante spider that I love dearly. I’ve had it three years and it truly is the best car I’ve ever owned. However, I always like to switch up cars and want to experience something new.

I was looking at a 488 spider and a 765 LT spider and wanted to get everyone’s opinions if anyone has made the switch before? My driving style is just around town and a few spirited runs in the canyons. I do not track the cars and only drive maybe a few times a week for fun.

What I love about the Perf is that it’s so versatile. It’s raw, sounds incredible, amazing steering, reliable, and still comfortable to enjoy with wife on date nights with the comfort seats.

Would love to hear from you all! I’ve never owned a Ferrari. I’ve owned a 650s and R8 and other stuff less exotic. My only requirements for replacement of the Perf is it must be drop top and sub $500k. I know a Pista would be a more fair comp but can’t afford it right now :(

For that price you’re probably looking more at an F8 Spider.

  3. Well, I think the first question you have to ask yourself and answer is what kind of price range you have in mind for your next car.

There's probably a good 80-100k price differential between similarly spec'd (options, mileage, etc.) between the 488 and F8.

Price notwithstanding, the F8 is no doubt a better car quantitatively speaking, and perhaps even qualitatively.

I put sub $500k is ideally where I want to be. My main concern is the emotional feeling I get with the Perf and want that in my next car as well. My old 650s did not have much emotion and felt it lacked a lot after 2 years of ownership. I drove the 720s and felt similar to 650 just much faster. I was hoping the 488 with a nice exhaust would an experience worth trying. I understand it’s not apples to apples comparison with my Perf being a track type variant of the huracan but still seeing what owners this that might have owned or driven a Perf before

In my opinion, you will NEVER get the same feel in any Ferrari as you will with a Lamborghini… to me, they are just completely different. Of course, the feel in a Ferrari is MUCH preferred for me over the Lambos but I guess you’re just gonna have to buy one and find out for yourself which you prefer.

And go with F8 for sure over 488 since it’s in your price range still.

I've driven a Performante before. The steering is better than in a 488, it's sharper and more track focused. The 488 is much more "refined" in terms of luxury and comfort. The Pista is the only comparable car really. The F8 is very fast, but a different car. The Pista is really the only comp in the Ferrari line-up. If you do go Ferrari, be prepared for better visibility from the driver's seat than a Performante, but not as "loud" and in your face if that is your thing. Based on your other car choices and previous cars, I'm not sure you'd be happy with a Ferrari unless you made the leap to the Pista. Just my two cents from what you've written.

Everything is a downgrade from the perf, except the 765. Even the pista. A big chunk of the pista cost, is the collectors item value.

My situation is slightly similar but different. I had a Huracan 610-4. My main complaint with that car was the steering at the limit. It was so bad that I initially thought something was wrong with the car. The feel just wasn't there and the understeer was really bad for a supercar.

The Perf although I haven't driven one seems to have corrected that in the Huracan line. So my assumption would be that I wouldn't have the same complain if I owned one.

I moved to a 488 spider and the steering in my opinion is worlds better at the limit. And if you actually drive the car the way it's meant to be driven. Over time the exhaust note will get louder and more juicy for lack of a better term. At the limit the Ferrari comes alive in a way my Huracan just couldn't. Therefore I say grab the 488.

My brother has a F8 and in my opinion the difference doesn't warrant the delta in price between the two.

With anything I'd rent one from one of these exotic rental companies and consider that an extended test drive. You'll know what to do after that. I rented a 488 in Miami before I actually bought one and after that weekend of driving the decision was clear.

    Good luck!

The Lambo Performante is 4 wheel drive. I am not sure that will elevate your emotions as high as a 2 wheel drive supercar. It never did for me. 2wd, mid motor, dct, naturally aspirated is truly the sweet spot.

I would not trade the Perf for either a 488 or F8. As was stated by @MotorMouth , they are both a downgrade. There's a reason Perfs are holding/appreciating and 488/F8s are not. I'm not sure there is a better car in the 325-375k range for what you'd get for your car. I certainly wouldn't switch to a 488/F8. Speciale maybe??

When I owned my TT Huracan, I got a chance to drive my friend’s Perf. I really liked it, and ended up putting my Huracan for sale to upgrade to a Perf and then get it TT’d as well. Then I drove a Ferrari. Changed my mind instantly. Sold the Huracan as planned, but ordered a F8 instead of getting a Perf. Now on my 3rd Ferrari with 2 more on the way. To me, the F8 is the superior car to the Perf everywhere except exhaust sound. At this point, I have no interest in ever purchasing anything from Lamborghini again.

Completely agree… and actually laughed out loud to the guy saying an F8 or 488 is a downgrade… so insane how some people think…. It would be an incredible upgrade if you care about style, performance, engineering, class, quality, handling etc etc— if you don’t and just like boy racer stuff that’s loud, then ya, stick with a perf

+1 on this, just drive and compare for yourself and you will realise you're owning one of the pinnacle Lambos when it comes to the visceral feel.

I think you need to come out to Irvine / Newport Beach / Laguna Niguel (Southern California), there are plenty of boy racers in ferraris that are loud and flashy. Lamborghini and Ferrari drivers are alike Cali. There is no difference between the two brands.

I'm speaking of the look and sound of the cars, not the owners lol... although yes, some owners also look boy racer and are loud.

I have a Huracan Evo and a 488. Two completely different cars. I would not recommend buying one to supplement the other. It’s not easy for me to describe which one is better. I think everyone has replied with good responses, it’s going to be a tough decision but I do like the rental idea, it’s the only way you will be able to decide. The good news is you will not go wrong either way.

The cowl shake and lack of speed will not meet his expectations. Sure it sounds great but I’d take the Perf over it. I’ve had both a Perf coupe, 458 Spider and now a Pista coupe.

Pista is the best comparison but it’s really not worth the dollar difference over the Perf unfortunately. Regardless, it is my favorite car to date. The seating/driving position and outward visibility in the F cars is superior to the Lambo also.
