Here in the Boston area, everyone honks their horn. A lot. It's a method of communication, and if you're .0242 seconds late off a green you're going to hear about it from your neighbors behind you.

So a few minutes ago I'm pulling out of the gas station behind a carload of teens in a Sunfire with a young girl driving. The coast is clear for a 1/4 mile in each direction but their dome lights are on, they're doing something between them (food?) and they're not moving. So I give a quick beep of the horn, as is standard Boston lingo for "you can go now." Well, they slam on their brakes and this young guy in the passenger seat spins around with the dome light on and starts making threat faces for ~10 seconds. And then they wait for another group of cars to come and go.

They pull out onto the arterial road and weave in both lanes at 20mph so I can't get around. Down the road there is a roundabout and they cut me off and spin wide and slow to a near stop in the exit I was trying to take before turning and going away.

Arrgh. I should have called the cops and reported them weaving about as suspected drunk drivers.

Young girls are constantly doing stupid **** like that. Plus they know they can get away with everything 'cause the cops are all wusses towards them.

What's worse, a Rager or one who instigates one?

Step 1. Get out of your car

Step 2. Go towards their car looking as mean and threatening as possible - yelling "I'm gonna $*%& you up!"

Step 3. If they don't take off, start pounding on their window and telling the driver to get out

Step 4. If he does get out, kick his ass, seabass! If he does not and takes off, yell he's a chicken and run after him for a few yards

Problem solved! Geez didn't you learn ANYTHING in Boston? :)

    Never.

Prevent some idiot from squeezing into the 3/4 car length space ahead of you, probably.

Man when I started driving if people would tailgate me I would drive slower to piss them off, then I realized I was being the bigger jerk. Please forgive me that was 3 years ago

It's these times I think that I'm probably too short-tempered right now to have a concealed carry. Or a Hummer with a large, flat black grille guard / battering ram.

I guess it really pushed my buttons because I'm not the kind of driver who intentionally tries to mess people over or threaten them. If someone wants by or has a problem I'll usually speed up, move out of their way or let them go first.

I got to say getting out of the car is never a good idea in Chicago - you don't know what your walking into.

A woman was shot and killed last year because she flashed an oncoming car to let them know they forgot to turn their headlights on at night.

It was interpreted as a gang challenge, the guy swong around and emptied his 9 into the car.

    just not worth it...

I gave up seeking recourse in such matters a long time ago, as I obtain satisfaction in knowing that Charles Darwin's theories and a telephone pole or bridge abutment will eventually work their magic to allow these lowlifes to remove themselves from the gene pool...

That is definitely NOT a M82. That looks like 20mm. An African design maybe?

I just pull over for 30-45 seconds and let them get ahead. I don't need the aggravation, and you never know if the person that pissed you off (that you are trying to 'get back' at) just came from committing an armed robbery or a homicide.

Don't you void your first amendment right if the speech in any way promotes an "invitation" to physical violence?

I can understand you honking your horn, but I always use my horn wisley. If they take more than 10 seconds, then I will honk. Other than that, I wait until they realize it. Some people take it the wrong way. On the other hand, I used to purposely block in people who are swerving in and out of traffic, and are being impatient; almost as if they have 1 minute to get to the hospital in a live or die situation. That made me no more of a better person, so I let them pass. I've missed a couple of lights because of my generosity, but you win some and lose some.

People tailgated me all the time when I was in the Boston area. I'd back down a bit, because now I needed enough stopping distance for *both* of us, so I could stop without being hit in the back. (The scary part is being tailgated so close you can hear the other car's metal-on-metal worn pads.)

Besides: by leaving extra distance in front I gave them the option: If they don't believe in speed limits or following distances, why do they let a no-passing zone bother them? On the road, the first one to the gridlock wins nothing at all. (They really get annoyed when they blow past you ... and then you wave to them as you pull up behind them at the next light.)

In the '80s, there was a Mercedes with M.D. tags in Natick that used to weave across both lanes at 20 mph on route 9 to block traffic. He was really annoying for about a month -- then I never saw him again. Presumably he was able to get professional help.
