Where would you go if you're already in Vegas and want to see a memorable national park, or similar outdoor attraction?

I will have a weekend while in Vegas so this sightseeing portion of the trip could be 2-3 days if needed.

I'm planning on some sort of rental KiaBuick SUV to tool around in.

I've done the Grand Canyon and that was fun, but I remember there being limited 4x4 trails to use for sightseeing. Moab, however, was oustanding in that respect and trail access was excellent.

What park would you locals choose for some light offroading, hiking and photo ops?

Is it worth it to do one park far away for the 2-3 days? Or do a day each in Zion, Bryce and Sedona?

    Thanks!
    LS

    Hoover Dam?

Valley of Fire would be nice too.

Sedona would be a hike, but great scenery and lots to do (including taking said KiaBuick SUV off road ;))

I just moved to Vegas this last dec. The best I can find for national parks is Red Rock, Mt. Charleston, and the park that borders Lake Meade (cant remember the name of the park or road, if you look at it on mapquest, you'll see the road as it curves around to boulder city from E Vegas). From what I gather, it's all hiking and mountain biking types of activities. Red Rock is on the western outskirts of Vegas. Mt. Charleston is about 20 miles N of the 95/215 intersection.

There's two parks out by Red Rock. One is the old estate of Howard Hughes. It's called Spring Mountain Ranch. There's actually a natural spring out there. You can visit the house (its a museum) and walk a path around the place. Really nice walk near sunset.

About 40 minute from the south of the strip or airport.
