Anyone here decided to paint your f430 or 360 to a different color? I'm seriously contemplating. Will it affect resale value? How much will it cost to paint the whole car?

What color is it right now, have you thought about having the car wrapped in vinyl?

+1 on the wrap. Painting will most definitely affect resale.

I think the overwhelming consensus will advise against repainting to a different color. Reduced resale value? For sure.

It costs much more to change the entire color of a car. All door jams, beneath the hood, trunk, etc must be changed. Visit your local body shop recommended by your dealer or from a good reference.

My current color is silver but i yearn for red. I know for fact it will affect resale value but I'm too bored with silver. If I trade it in for a red, i think i would lose more money. How much would it cost to completely repaint the car? Like there is no sign of sliver on the car in/out.

BTW here in Hawaii I cannot think of any reputable shop who will perform a decent job of wrapping my car. If it was mainland, i would seriously wrap my car.

Do you even know what is involved in changing the color of a car the right way?

In order to do it the correct non-99$ cheapo job way you must do the following:

Detrim every component of the car including the interior.
Take off all parts that touch the body (pretty much everything).
Take off all body parts so the back sides can be painted.
    Take out all glass.

You pretty much have to take a car down to the shell in order for it to look "factory".

Also repainting with out it looking "factory" will have a very big hit on resale value. Mainly because of areas that are not painted (back sides of panels) where the possible future owner can see them or the PPI shows it will deter people.

Another thing to consider is that NO ZERO NADA body shop can produce a factory refinish with out taking everything including running gear and interior off the shell and painting it on a rotisserie. Otherwise you will always find over spray, tape lines ect... Also there is a 100% chance of having some imperfection in the paint like trash, orange peel, or fish eyes. The factories paint booths are pretty close to being the cleanest most sterile places you could probably ever get into to keep these things from happening.

Unless it is a full frame off type restoration you are better off trading it for a car of a different color that you want.

Mate, dont stress. Colour can be changed quite easily. :):)

I have a mate that paints cars, the best spray painter in town actually. He charges and extra $1000 for a colour change when he paints cars. That involves removing the glass, door trims etc..etc. He does it all. :):)

Being a Ferrari, I would say at least US $10K+ for a colour change. Mainly because its a Ferrari. Anywhere else, I would halve that amount.:rolleyes:

Its not hard to take the car to your local paint shop and ask for a quote. :):)

Just paint it red and be done with it. Dont worry about resale, your car is still depreciating anyway. Worst case, spend another $10K to paint it back to silver when the time comes to sell. But that will be a $20K turn-around exercise, is it worth it? ;);)

Good luck and paint away I say.:eek:

Pap hit the nail on the head!

And if you paint it "resale Red" you'll probably get a better price than silver :)

Pap is quite right , about 10k to do it right maybe 12k because its a Ferrari. The interior is not necessary to remove but panels and glass are. Resale red sip offset what you were going to lose it being boring silver. Red is always in higher demand.

MOST IMPORTANT ! is having it done right. A quality job will make if very hard to detect if at all plus disclose the fact of a repaint upfront . It's a ferrari someone will always want it for the right price.

Thank you for the assuring words. I will take it to couple shops and I'll find out. Actually I really love my car and have no plan to sell it so I shouldn't worry about resale value. I should do what makes me happy lol. I'll just make sure that they do it right. thanks guys

    How about painting non-ferrari colours?

I come from the world of Lotus and my two favourite colours are Chrome Orange and Krypton Green. It is very easy to find a lambo with those colors, but if I wanted a lambo, I wouldn't be on this board.

Would it make sense to find a (much) cheaper 360 with a less "desireable" color like one of the shades of blue, and re-paint the entire car orange or neon green?

If I were to decide to sell later, what would be the resale value of a perfectly-painted orange or neon green 360 spider as compared to Rosso, Nero, Giallo, or Grigio? -$10K? -$15K? How much of a hit would I take?

I once saw on youtube, a Novitec f430 that appeared to be custom painted. It was like an orange color. Pearl orange may look good... I talked to a shop today and I was quoted 8k. They guaranteed that it will look "factory" paint or money back. Plus lifetime guarantee. I was told it will take 4 weeks to complete. Sounds right?

$8K and 4 weeks sounds about right. :):)

Im getting a 'normal' car of mine fully resprayed now. Same colour though, and it will take around 1.5 weeks. :):)

So a full colour change would take at least 3-4 weeks. :):)

    So Pap,

Are they stripping your car down as well? Or since it is a respray, only visible body parts? thanks

Yep, bonnet, front and rear bars and front gaurds come off. :):)

Car should be ready next week. Drove past there yesterday and it was fully primed and ready to go. :D:D

This is the car when he started. Bonnet and front bar off. :):)

Car will be colour coded outside. Meaning side mirrors painted and side trim also. Any black section on the exterior will now be red. :):)

If you paint it orange or green you limit your sellers pool. It's not about a drastic drop in value it's about taking 95% of Ferrari buyers out of the equation. You'll have to be very patient with those colors if you do choose to sell again.

Buy a good one and call or email skinzwraps out of Texas. They will fly anywhere and wrap it. it's about a 1 full day process for a 360/430

360's and 430's have nothing in the engine bay to paint. All non body color parts in there.

First as he mentions glass out for a good paint job. The rear quarter windows are not removable without breaking them. Be aware of this before you ask your body shop to take them out or you might have a hefty bill for repair.

The other issue is your headlights. Those are color matched from the factory. Painting inside could prove to be very hard and expensive would be my thoughts.

I would disagree that a good body shop can't match a Ferrari exterior paint job. I've always been happy with my cars out of Maranello but I bet a search on fchat would provide you with 100's of posts complaining of horrid finishes from the factory so don't hesitate if that's the case.

If you really want a red car buy one. Don't waste all your efforts trying to save a few bucks by painting a car. Resale red means there are more than plenty to choose from.
23 red 360's and 31 red 430's on Ebay Motors right now. That's a lot. Sell your silver for a red and don't look back.
If you are really concerned about the loss than just put a $3-4k wrap on for a bit to curb your appetite.
