My authorised dealer has informed me that they can add painted shields to my 812 SF. I always stop and look at painted shields and absolutely love them especially on the 812. Does anyone have any opinions on if this is a good idea to modify the car away from original factory spec? The way I see it they are coming from an authorized dealer as an approved addition so, should be fine as they come with an invoice that says Ferrari etc but, of course they will not go on the original spec sheet so I'm still in two minds, any opinions will be greatly appreciated [emoji120]

I would guess (but just a guess) that the impact on resale would depend mostly on the quality of the workmanship. If it's on par with a factory job (including being under the clear coat), I wouldn't think many people would mind if it doesn't match the original spec, so long as they like the painted shields. And a lot of people do like them, particularly on the V12s.

On the other hand, if the workmanship looks subpar, that will definitely be a turnoff. Presumably for you too. So be sure that you trust them to do it right.

That said, I'd think the resale impact would be small relative to the up-front cost. Presumably this will be an expensive job, particularly if you have enamel shields now. If you do, the cavity for the enamel shields likely means you'll need to replace your fenders:

(Of course - as Caeruleus11 mentions - this should alleviate any resale concerns as you'll have the option to replace the original fenders.)

If you don't have enamel shields, you wouldn't have to replace the fenders. But I'd still want to know how they'd do the job and confirm that you'll be satisfied with the quality.

Please let us know what you decide. And if you move forward, let us know how it turns out!

The original spec is without shields and I questioned them as to if the shields will be indistinguishable from the factory, they have assured me the shields will be exactly as per factory painted shields as the same process is followed. They have stated two or three clear coats will be used over the shields once painted and the work comes with a full warranty. I very much hope the quality of work is as per their description and due to the high cost I will not accept the work until it is perfect so I guess this should not have any negative impact or resale.

Awesome! Obviously don't take my word for it on the resale, but that's what makes sense to me.

Please post pics if/when you do it. Painted shields look great on the 812 SF if you ask me... :)

    Good luck!

How much are they quoting you? And is it to convert your current bridges or a 2nd new set?

The cost is reasonable as they only paint the shields and do not touch the original paint below. £5k which, I believe is less than as an original factory option. They key the whole top part of the wing, paint on the badge then lacquer the whole wing

That is significantly less than I would expect. What are they doing about the indentations for the current shields, or is is currently sheildless?

Currently shieldless, I think that is what makes the huge difference, i personality thought it would be way more also. They are basically just stenciling on the shields and coating with two coats of lacquer

Curious to see how they come out. I love painted shields. My concern is they say it’s exactly as the factory would it but it’s not at the factory…..who’s doing the work and have you seen it? Is t it a $10K+ option?

Wouldn’t even bother with this with a UK Dealer. Take it to Marco Zanassi at Zanassi Carroceria and pay the 15k euros, who does the painted shields for Ferrari. No worry on resale, and a better job than one UK Dealer showed me on a 488 Coupe and a 812 SF project. Think they were quoting £5k as well. Think Romans sold that 488 Coupe Redently and I think Amari did the same to their 812 SF in 2 Layer Verde/Green, sure you can find them in Sold Archive Photos. If I had to do it, would wait for Marco Zanassi to do it and have a great Italian trip there and back. GL

Zanassi Carroceria are the company that do most of the special paintwork for Ferrari and are based in Maranello, I think they also now have a base inside the factory as well. There was talk of this last year when I was at the factory but it may not have happened?

Pete. Who is the dealer getting to do the paint work, if they can do it perfectly I would go for it for sure.

I am happy with them, I need to see the whole car uncovered to get the full effect as I went by a day early so only the wings were uncovered, I can't wait to collect after ppf on Wednesday next week
