What should be the paint thickness range for original paint both on same panel and various panels? Would it be different for Bianco Avus and a darker color?

    I don't know, sorry.

    But :
With or without clear coat would be a difference too.

    Looks like 150-200 microns...
"A car’s paint job is generally made up of 5 layers: Phosphate, E-coat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat. Certain manufacturers apply the primer layer via powder coating, which can easily be twice as thick as your standard waterborne primer layer (60 µm compared to ~30µm for waterborne primers). The result is a better film build and greater stone chip resistance. Ferrari, one of the most famous manufacturers to utilize this tech, builds cars with some of the highest paint film thickness in the industry. Ever since the Italian marque began using powdered primers in 2004, typical paint thickness ranged from 150 to 200 microns on almost all of their cars. The California T in Rosso Corsa, for example, has a minimum thickness of 200 microns once cured. (Models like the Ferrari F40, which was known for having ultra thin paint, are an exception – it was the result of weight saving tactics in the late 80’s)."

Thanks for that. I wonder what PPI of 2nd/3rd hand owner 599 owners would show.

I also wonder what would a spray due to scratches would bring on top?

The big thing with paint thickness is consistent readings across all panels.. that would show a repaint of that panel etc

Unless the whole car was stripped the readings would be different from panel to panel by a great degree

In the older days of ferrari when painted by hand this doesn't hold true .. since paint thickness depended on who painted that day and the consistency was always there

Did all colors came with clear coat ?

So it would be (for example) rosso corsa ds at the 599.
Am I correct that up to the 575 the rosso corsa was without clear coat ?

Daniel- Must have been in there somewhere. The 575M WSM has instructions on how to use the clear coat and that was written in 2001.

Way before that: during the 348 production, in or around 1991. All 328s (end of production: September 1989) have single stage paint (when you polish them, your pad end up body colored very soon).
Since the middle of 348 production (again: about 1991..) all Ferraris have base coat + clear coat.
