EDIT: Impersonator quote deleted. well this is weak : "The car offered here is Chassis # P538*B*04 Commissioned by Frenchman Jacques Lavost and started construction of the car in early 1970s at Salvatore Diomantes shop with Giotto Bizzarrini and his wife helping in the production using the same components used on the 1965 Built cars. The car was completed in 1978 and has certification from ASI. This car has different front air-intake, side intakes in doors and not rear wings, 2 triangular-section headrests and with matching roll-bars. Ownerships history: 2000 still owned by Lavost. 2003 Davide di Bernardi (Scuderia GAMS), Como, Italy" I was wondering to read more, may be someone else can tell us more about !
Thats about it, well known car in the Bizzarrini world. This was the last revision made by Bizzarrini. Giotto was still trying to improve the car. Rear radiators, hence the side air ducts in the doors. In early photo's there were no front air vents, later added possibly for looks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike, what do you think of BJ auction as the company to offer this one? Seems...intriguing anyway? And what do you reckon it will bring$?
ZF Gearbox number as per Pantera registry, number sequence makes it June or July 1973 when it was put in the Pantera!
Mike, JP's 'other cars' back in the late 80's. Mistral Spider, Mangusta, big block? Cobra, Countach,.etc...GREAT group of cars! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Will come back to the P538 with Lamborghini-V12-engine. Is my understanding correct that till today only one P538 with V12-engine existed? The red barchetta with #002? Are there some replicas of P538 V12? Thx for your feedback.
Car 001 had the Lamborghini engine but it was crashed in testing, parts were removed and used on chassis two in order to fulfill delivery to the American owner Mike Gammino for the new Can Am races. 002 was painted blue and entered at Bridgehampton, but had a failure during practice. Car now sits in the San Diego auto Museum next to a Bizzarrini AMX/3 On a side note one wonders where Bizzarrini came up with the V12 engine. Bizzarrini designed the Lamborghini V12 but left Lamborghini in a dispute that ended up in court. Bizzarrini won the lawsuit, so I doubt Giotto just made a phone call and ordered a engine. Bizzarrini did have access to Lamborghini's prototype engines while development was going on, so maybe he saved one of these and used it for this project. I have spoke to people that have tried to find the engine serial number on 002 with no success. Does P538 002 have one of the original Lamborghini prototype engines? Image Unavailable, Please Login
