I started lurking here to learn about the 456M before I bought one, and then signed up when I got it. Learned a ton about that car and so I stayed on and upped my membership to Rossa. The Silver forum is a great community, and my participation in other sites has fallen off since then. Then I got a 308, and then I got a 360... and it's all because of the f-chat pusher men! :)

I agree with you man, but I have several mods stalking me 24/7/365 in the F1 section, so spend far more time banned than I ever should or ever deserve, paying them and being banned most of the subscription period would be pointless, but I agree, I was Rossa for years, and it’s a shame, because there are a massive number of really great people who only hang in silver and rossa that you’ll never meet and talk with if you don’t subscribe.

I’m really glad I’ve asked the question so far, as the experiences of fchat have been largely positive, it’s not just a car forum to read, it’s one where if you take some time and introduce yourself, interact, add your bit of knowledge, you can really get a lot back out of it. I have a lot of people here that I respect immensely, some of whom have met me in Vegas, and know how unworthy I am! Hehe

As I think I said, I get banned a lot, and recently, while I was banned rather unfairly (I suppose I have to say that, but I challenge anyone to find what happened fair) the guys there actually started a thread counting down the days to when I returned, and treated that return as a positive event! I couldn’t see most of the photos they posted of course while banned, but just being able to read the comments was fun, and made me see more than any other way, there are people here that DO enjoy hearing from you, do enjoy your jokes, even if they are as crap as mine!

I joined when I started my search for a Ferrari and 2 months later when I bought mine, I subscribed to silver. After 2 years I dropped the subscription and the P&R forum was the reason. I found myself going there and getting involved in, ahem, discussions that just got me aggravated. I do miss the business section though.

I really just want the Ferrari forums and sports and occasionally other special interest forums.

Can I still get a refund 4 years later LightGuy? :D

I only look at it for the articles!

Came here for information when purchasing my first, and to this point anyway my only, Ferrari. Got lots of valuable tips then and still do a year and a half after buying my 430. Lots of great information on lots of subjects and events in a variety of the forums.

OK. I like the pictures too!

    For me, it’s the familiar refrain;

Came for the cars, stayed for the people.

(It’s essentially the only place I can interact with smart, successful, interesting people with a very small DB and AH quotient. I’m the dummy here and the AH here. I prefer it that way.)

Thanks buddy..... I’m trying, honestly...... I think I was more surprised than anyone when I got banned this time! I got banned for refusing to put a guy on ignore that had said some very horrible stuff about me, and I wanted to keep an eye on what he said. He on the other hand wasn’t even told to apologise! If you go to the F1 section there’s actually a ‘free Sid’ type thread!

I really value the vast majority of the people I’ve met here, both online and the ones I’ve been lucky enough to meet in person, but in the f1 section, there are some that you really wonder about their motives for being here, some of them openly admitting they hate Ferrari, they are a socialist that hates money/capitalism etc, that they are here to annoy tifosi as they are fans of other teams, all sorts.... some wierd reasons for being here in my book, and unfortunately I do wear my heart (and my tifosi membership badge) on my sleeve, so I get caught up real quick arguing for the marque/team!

Well, the Ferrari certainly tends to help you get easier access to view ‘rear ends’, as well as ‘legs’, ‘pretty girls in ferraris’ and plenty of ‘cleavage’ in my experience !!

I came here in 2004 after buying my first Ferrari, A Mondial QV. Yeah I bought the car because I decided in 1997/98 I wanted to treat myself for my 40th birthday. I came about Ferrari at that time. As a Petrolhead I always knew of Ferrari but it was never something I lusted after. I was more a motor rallying fan than F1 and in fact until 2005 after I was bought a Ferrari in F1 book I had never watched an F1 race from start to finish other than as a kid on my Scalextric.

I am now an avid Ferrari fan on and off the track. I adore the brand like nothing else. Live, eat, I regularly go to Italy (every year almost since I divorced in 2010) and numerous times to Maranello. I even have Maranello on my favourite baseball cap (technically it is Maranellos Ferrari of Egham, UK but who cares).

I am a UNIX systems admin and consequently used UNIX and such forums from about 2000. Today I don't use them, why I'm clever enough without them :p:D
After I bought that Mondial and needed help with the failing electrical system (fusebox) I came here.
The UK section was very active then but one of them fell foul of the admin team and got permabanned. They then formed a UK site and we all went there. I kept a toe in here but it was not often I came. The UK still exists but the same crew all got banned or just left because their friends did. It is much quieter today but there I get to meet UK'ers and we regularly do drive outs to mainly Wales. I came back a few years ago which is why my post count is so low.

What I like here is the technical information available, and whilst I have all the Ferrari work done professionally it is great to know what is required. I do all my own car DIY on my other cars, well other car as my third car is brand new and under warranty.

I also love the people here. In my past life (prior to divorce) I vacationed in the US every year and sometimes twice a year. I remember meeting an Fchatter who had a 550 in California in the mid noughties. We met in a diner in Los Angeles. For me it was surreal, growing up like many UK kids watching US TV and there I was chatting to an American in LA like an American. He took us to a burger place in LA where Jay Leno often attended. Not that night unfortunately but my other passion muscle and pony cars were there in droves. We walked back to an American street back to our cars. For that night I was in one of those TV movies.

Now I am divorced all my finance goes into cars and American holidays seem to elude me. However in 2014 I went to Dallas (we are an American owned company who's head office is in Plano) with work and met The Godmother (Marci Hass) and Don & Carolyn Rose. They took me out for a BBQ and Marci then had an F355 Spider and picked me up at the NYLO hotel and showed me some of the popular sites locally. What lovely people who I would never had met but for this site.
There was another very wealthy owner who organised a special invite only Wings & Wheels at the local airport. What an absolute privilege. He'd never met me until that day.
I maintain to this day that American people are the friendliest people the British ever get to meet, followed by Italians of course.

Last of all the folk here regardless to their origins all mostly share the same passion and talk the same talk. This is the first car forum I ever joined and it will most likely be the one I bid farewell to when that fateful day arrives (hopefully by then we will be all plugged into the internet permanently :D).

I subscribe to silver here and membership to the aforementioned site. I do use other car forums but only pay to use Ferrari forums. This is my favourite.

I've been lurking around here for a while to learn and learn more about specific Ferrari models, and the F1 area, always very entertaining.
I got some really helpful advice here when I moved from BR to the UK.
90% of my visits are to check the F1 threads and pics.

Well, as many members do, I've been following the red cars in F1 since the days of Villeneuve, early Eighties.
After reading Peter Egan's R&T article "Dino: Car of the North," I pulled the trigger on my own Dino in 1984, iirc, and sold it three years later (you know the stories about "the one that got away")
I come to the site to read the articles and posts, view the cool photos, and search for *anything* about the 288 GTO & 458 Speciale--however, being a college professor, I have taken a vow of poverty, so now I'm able to afford only my two Porsches.
I am more a "reader" than a "poster," so I do not have technical info to add, but I appreciate those who do.
    Onward!

I like cars - always have since I was a small child growing up in the 1950's. I used to write to car manufacturers asking for brochures, badges - anything. I was interested in F1 - Fangio, Moss, Collins, Hawthorne, Brabham, Phil Hill, Clarke, Graham Hill etc. Vanwall, BRM, Lotus, Ferrari - 156 sharknose. Fond memories. Fast forward to the internet world, joined a few car forums - Jaguar, Aston Martin, Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini, Mclaren, Land Rover, McLaren, Ferrari. In a perfect world I would own a Ferrari F12 or 812 but it isn't perfect, so the closest I can get to F-car performance is my XKR Speedpack which makes a glorious sound from its 5.0 litre supercharged V8.

FChat for me is the best forum because there is so much that interests me - F1, the model specific sections, detailing, regional/international all providing a different perspective on what it is to own and drive a Ferrari. As far as the owners are concerned - I would love to be one which I know is unlikely unless I win big on the lottery! As in any walk of life there are many that could be my friends and many that probably wouldn't. Some of the contributors here amuse me, others infuriate but overall it's a great place to spend time

Great post, and lots of similarities with me in your opinions of the US.... I was fascinated as a child by the US, and love every moment I can spend there (admittedly Vegas every time these days, but I’ve been most places earlier in life)

    Evolving reasons for me.

I originally came to seek help from people more knowledgeable than myself about specific models. At the time I was looking at a few 456's, and wanted to know what to look out for when inspecting the cars. Funnily, through this forum I decided to buy another Mondial. I was very taken with the passion and pictures on that subforum and it made me fall in love with the model all over again.

Then at some point during the run up to the 2016 election I ventured into P&R because I genuinely couldn't understand the appeal of a specific candidate, and I wanted to ask people that supported that person what they say in them. That launched me down a rabbit hole of talking politics, which eventually morphed into too much online arguing to suit my tastes (as much my fault as anyone else). I realised that what I really like about Fchat is the cars, and the shared love we have for them and knowledge we have about them. Turns out I prefer learning to arguing. So I banned myself from P&R and have been happily talking cars, paint schemes, etc with fellow owners ever since.

I came to Ferrari Chat to learn about the Ferraris at first. But then I realized that I can learn about virtually anything here . IT is usually the first place I go to find out about a big news event and sure enough there will be a thread here on the event and sometimes before it is really covered on the TV news ... more often than not there is a first hand report describing things...
I got hooked on Ferrari chat when I first wanted to buy a California and every question was answered then I wanted a 550 or a 575 AND sure enough people here helped me learn what I needed and even got contacted by Bradan that helped me find the finest 550 all within a week or so..... But the I cannot forget how much I was helped by the true experts in finding perhaps the best 246 Gt on the market and it was at a fair price .. (freeman , shaughnessy , and German Dino...and others) I posted I was looking to buy and very quickly they truly helped me buy a great car sight unseen and it was all at no cost with Tom doing the PPI ..... for which I am in their debt this was in 2012 ...I just have to say for the most part everyone is very helpful .....
I hang around because I like the site it is the only car forum or any forum I am on with any regularity .... I subscribe with at a Rosso level to support the site the best I can....
