Our Beloved Ferrari's have FORD parts in them? Ok, I really don't know what to say here. I think the pictures speak a thousand words. This Genuine Ferrari 360 Hazard switch came from my center console, its just one of the buttons which I can only assume has the same stamps, I haven't checked them all.... I was rather baffled when I saw this. I kid you not, this is not a joke! Can someone else please check their buttons. Very strange considering the parent company is Fiat to use Ford parts, even in the Switches?! But which one is it and which car did the original button come from? [We may yet discover a cheaper source for the original gubbins!]. What's most strange here is that we have both stamps, a Ferrari stamp AND a Ford Stamp! Previously I've discovering FIAT/LANCIA parts for the Door Locking Motors I sort of justified this by them being Italian Manufacturers but Ford? Ferrari/Fiat must have got a Stellar deal -T Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
lololol, they do whatever it takes to save money, don't they? i've heard that no car is made within a single country now, or im mistaken?
Ferrari probably "partners" with ford to use their volume discount on generic parts such as these types of switches to keep their prices down. At the end of the day Ford produces cars for the average person and Ferrari is good at building race cars. A ford made hazard switch would probably be less problematic than an Italian one anyhow. I'm ok with it.
lol so true, The Hazard Warning switch, its one of those parts you just want to "work" without getting itself into a tantrum and refusing to go on when you need it most Just wish the Ferrari switch price was a little bit more realistic considering its humble origins.
Just think of the Ford Focus owners' proud smile when they discover that they have Ferrari part inside the car! LOL
When I'm off CNC machining parts from pure Alumninum billet in Solidworks 3D to make the finest possible part I can don't EVER LET a purist ever again tell me 'but its not original' !!!!
Are you sure? From memory... The CCM carbon brakes where designed by Brembo, just North East of Milan, Italy. The ABS/ASR and associated wheel sensors by Bosch, Germany. The active suspension ecu (at least on the 360) was done by Siemens, Germany. The electronic dampers by ZF Sach, Germany.
Yes, probably a Ford part. Go to the 348 section, and look at one of the sticky posts. It has a TON of car parts for the 348 that is cross referenced with other parts. Alternator - AC Delco, cam positioning sensor - Kia etc.
The remote keyfobs for the Ferrari 360 are also old Ford keyfob remotes. Same part. Looks like Ferrari takes 10 year old Ford technology because its cheap surplus or something. Ferrari isn't big enough to design all the generic automobile tech, they specialize in the engine and drivetrain and such. So picking up Ford parts for switches makes sense if it means they put their engineers on the engine. Even Pininfarina is brought in for the design and they don't hide that.
I was once told by Daniel at Ricambi that Ferrari sells you the power train and gives you the rest of the car for free. I guess they want to maximize their profit on the "rest". Alan
I'm just quite surprised that these kind of switch parts don't come from Fiat Group considering they are the parent company!
I agree with you on the reliability of the part being manufactured by Ford. However, keeping the price down using Ford parts that isn't working
I remember the first time I cleaned my Esprit. When I got to the tail lights, they proudly had Toyota written on them.
Probably the company that makes that switch sells it to other companies as well like Ford etc. Same thing happens with Bosch parts. Porshe, Ferrari, Audi, VW and many more companies are sharing same Bosch electronic parts.
I recall reading that some Aston Martin side-view mirrors were the same used by Volvo, and when dismantled, would have the Volvo logo on them. Didn't Ford at one point own both of these marques?
