    I was at the Swiss Slalom Championship round at Frauenfeld on Saturday with Andrea. A friend of mine was taking part in his Bugatti 35B. Since Wolfgang is such a fan I thought I'd post some pictures for him.

    There are one or two other cars here as well and a Ferrari or two to keep it Fcar related.
    See ya
    Simon

    Having trouble posting the pics, looks like I've got to resize all of them...bugger

    Hi Carsten, its nice to finally get the chance to say hello to some people I don't yet know here on Fchat.

    Yes, the car is gorgeous. It has quite a competition history (unfortunately I don't know the serial number). Kurt, the guy in black racing overalls behind the car, has had it about 3 years now. He bought it from a collector in France. I met Kurt when I came to Switzerland with my Austin Healey 100M. He has a 3 wheeler morgan and another friend has a pre- war Alvis 12/40 so we used to get together for a few drives in summer. When he turned up once in his Bugatti....well, you can imagine. :D
    Like Wolfgang, the 35B is one of my all time favourite cars.

    Hope you liked the pictures,

    See ya

    thanks, I`m learning since I know you -the master-

    Simon,
    please, please tell us more. Whats the story?
    I think I saw the gent with the race dress several times at the Nürburgring and in Schwetzingen. Is he the one who ownes many, many vintage racers?
    Ferrari, Maserati and Bugatti? He is a Swiss gent and I`m just searching (somewhere stored on my pc) for his name.

    Well, spotted. Like I said the car has been raced since day one, so has had a number of changes. I know It was crashed heavily just before the war and the chassis was repaired and it was rebodied just after the war. As far as I know the gearbox, and front and rear axles are totally original. The engine is original apart from the cylinder head and the chassis carries the correct serial# but has been heavily repaired.

    And it sounds beautiful

    He doesn't own any other competition cars. He has done several events in the last 2 years but I think all in Switzerland. He was at the Klausen Memorial last year and at Bremmgarten, twice I think?!?.

    Simon,
    so sorry its another awesome great gent from Switzerland.
    Wonderful to see such beautiful art-work-cars still on the road & raacing.

    Carsten,
    you must know the other Swiss gent. He has been in Schwetzingen with 5 racing cars....and his name with pre name was printed on the door of each car.

    @Simon,
    It's a pleasure for me also, to meet others with the same passion :)
    I sure hope that we can talk again some other time!!!

    @Wolfgang,
    I see you are a quick learner....have you been studying your Bugatti litterature homework??? New question......apart from the wheels, what identyfies this as a type 35B, and not a Type 51??? Ten points for a right answer....

    Carsten,

    ouch, thats a hard one:
    35B
    - missing lamps
    - missing the smal passenger windshield
    - has a water control at the cooler and the 51 NOT!

    ...mhmmm what else?n Very hard to see - to me a starter;)

    AAAARGHH... I was jus so confident and proud of my student here......and then he ruins my joy..... ;) Note the blower hole on the right side of the bonnet.... a high possitioned blower hole means that this is a single cam car, and therefore it could not be a type 51 which has got twin cams..... further the dash mounted magneto is on the single cam cars placed in the middle of the dash, as it is driven from the single overhead cam.... on the 51 it's mounted to the left, as it is driven from the left of the two cams.....simpel :)
    You will have to learn this until next time!!!!! :D
    I'm scanning my brain to find the name of the Swiss gent you're thinking of....
