I am trying to decide whether to keep my basic AAA membership, or upgrade to Plus or Premier. The big difference between the levels is the distance of tow they cover (Basic = 3 miles, Plus = 100 miles, and Premier = 200 miles). Since I do a fair amount of track driving, it would be nice to be able to get my car home (or to my local shop) from either PIR or Grass Valley. But I'm trying to work out "per mile" charges versus the cost of the membership. Does anyone know average "cost per mile" charges.

Second question. Triple A (in any case) I think would cover "hook charges" plus some number of miles. If I wanted to go further, would I just be responsible for the additional miles?

    Thanks--Scott

Decisions. Decisions. Obviously, a question such as this, with the potential huge financial ramifications, will require further detailed analysis by a trained economist/mathematician. This could take awhile, Scotty. I'm sure there is someone on this board prepared to do the in-depth research for you and offer an opinion. I should warn you, however, that while you may wind up saving a few dollars, the cost of the taxi ride home would probably offset any savings. In the meantime, between sessions at the track, you may want to consider calling AAA. Cheers!

Smart alec! Yes, I get that it will take research--I have a call into AAA, a call into my insurance (I have towing as part of that), and I will call a couple of tow companies.

I'm not looking for someone to do research for me, but I was hoping that someone had done research for themselves and could report the results. My experience, in situations such as these, is that when you ask a "hypothetical" question (to, say, the person who works the front desk at a towing company) you get a "hypothetical" answers whose quality, veracity, and accuracy may all be suspect. Also, one of my "hidden" purposes for a post like this is to fish for other possible solutions or considerations that may not have even crossed my mind.

Take it easy, Doc. That's why I mentioned the taxi as a consideration that may not have crossed your mind.

I thought AAA only gave you a limited number of tows per year. If they felt you were abusing the service they would cancel you.
