Sounds pretty good. Seems like my dealer was correct about pinning open the valves . No issues.
When I'm out I see the main problem as being bystanders hear the sound and automatically associate noise with driving fast, that's why I have not fitted my forza controller from my first 458 to my current one. I definitely agree that sound in the UK is becoming more and more regarded as anti social
Upon start up the valves are open. The valves then close and open again at 3500. Pinning the valves open only affects the sound after start up to 3500 rpm.
Sound pretty much like the usual setup then although on my 458 sound is different over 3500 with controller set to open then in factory mode also I feel a bit less pick up
Exhaust valve update. After a 15 minute easy drive, i got an engine malfunction error code. Sorry guys, car is at the dealer being checked, but I’m pretty sure it’s caused by the valves being pinned open. I’ll confirm once I get the car back.
Oh no there goes the great hope for us all, I thought it was all scaremongering by the dealer but, turns out not to be the case
Here's a delivery car being prepped that I passed on the way to work today Image Unavailable, Please Login
This may be the case now, but give the exhaust some time to settle and the sound will definitely improve.
Ok guys, I just came back from my first drive with the valves closed. I have a few profound observations. First, the car only sound marginal at idle and low rpm cruising. In actual driving conditions it sounds great. Better and different than my 488. It’s hard to explain, but it’s a crisper sound. Higher pitched and very aggressive. When I took the car on its first drive with the valves pinned open, it didn’t seem as sharp and quick as my 488. I was baffled after everything I read. Well, let me tell you. It’s either my imagination or fact that with the valves are back to stock, this car is scary fast. I stuck my foot in it at different rpm ranges and oh my God it’s fu*king unbelievable!!! Zero turbo lag and it pulled so hard it scared me. I don’t know how it gets any better than this.
Can’t wait. Supposedly mine hits the dealer end of this week (Friday or Saturday). Then off to the detailer for paint correction, PPF, Ceramic coating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Arnie there actually is an explanation for that opening up the exhaust more would reduce torque and increase horsepower. So by opening the baffles what your feeling is reduced torque, I think turbo systems are particularly sensitive to back pressure.
Not sure how to understand that - at any given rpm, reducing torque is reducing power (changing the respective curves of torque and power may result in lower peak torque and higher peak power, but at different speeds).
Not sure of the technical reasons why, but the car felt significantly different, and MUCH faster after I got it back. Even though the tires were not fully warmed up, it was giving me wheel spin at 50mph, when I got on it in 2nd gear. And let me tell you, I never put my foot all the way in it. This is definitely Mclaren 720s kind of performance, and I don’t need to tell you how fast that car is.
