Obviously a real daytona spyder is beyond most people - this looks a very convincing replica - much better than the Miami Vice style Corvette versions.

Not wanting to start a debate over real v's replica.

The above car isn't an MR2 with Bondo and fibreglass stuck on, it's a ground up build, using a specific chassis for the car - the Southern Roadcraft model and a powerful Jag engine - 5.3 V12.

red one seems nice, i too appriciate a quality replica for something that is otherwise unavailable. the yellow car has the corvette vaccum headlights which have miles of vaccum lines from the lights to the dash switch. seems to me they could do a plexi front end on it and do away with the trouble prone vette lights. i passed up a exact size tube chasis Countach replica with a supercharged and fuel injected chevy 350 with a (!) 6 speed a few years ago. been regretting it ever since. car was modeled after the "early " cars and had no wing on it. the red Daytona seems to be a nice car for cheap money.

I like the red Daytona, I looked at the McBurnie corvette based replicas & they just don't cut it. The flares and windshield look all wrong. I'd seriously consider the red one up til the price could buy you a 308. A Ferrari is about the engine & mystique not just looks.

these are very rare replicas. From what I have reseached on them they were made under a couple of different names. It seems they started out as Autokraft Spyders and were made by the gentleman who were converting Original Daytona Coupes into Spyders in the 80's//there was some kind of spin-off in to a company called Arrow Daytona and there were a few Daytona Coupes made,as well. They are very convincing and utitilize much of the original parts like windshield and top (unlike the Mcburnie Miami Vice corvette based cars). They don't come up for sale very often and when they do they certainly don't sell very cheap (65k to 85k usd)

I think the trouble with replicas is the cost: too inexpensive = cheesy, but well done = price becomes in line with real models within the marque. For 60k+ to spend on a Daytona replica, how many people would buy a genuine Ferrari? I think this is a dilemma, ...but is also a no-brainer. A Ferrari is about the engine and heritage, but yes they are so damn beautiful as well!

Nice to hear these opinions from F owners. I'm not a fan of the 308/328 Fiero replica's, nor do I like the MR2 based 355 replica's.

But the Daytona spyders by Southern Roadcraft are really well built and really look the part, along with of course some stunning P4 replicas that are out there.

I agree though that I would rather have a "real" 308 if the money for a replica Daytona approached that.

I think these Daytona replicas have a place - the originals are nowhere to be seen due to prohibitive cost, and they are built from chassis up - a chassis designed for the car rather than a "bolt-on" kit that the Fiero's and MR2's use.

They also have a serious power plant - 5.3litres of Jaguar V12 lump pulling a very lightweight body = masses of torque and power!

    Great summary!
That's also why I think it only makes sense to replicate extreme Ferraris/cars. Aside from the economics that also takes some of the poseur issue out of it: If somebody drives around in a 355 it is posing, because a 60k car can be had. However if that same person drives around in a nice 250 GTO replica you know it is a replica. It has to be.

The red looks pretty real. There was a guy that lived near me in Mississippi that had a Daytona spider on a corvette chassis plus a Testarossa(real). The daytona looks convincelibly authentic. Sorry no pics :(
