This is exactly the scenario that led me into my 355. Was shopping for a 993 Turbo. :D

Sorry I meant to say "dry ice blasting".

I'm constantly amazing how this service turns back the time on cars without damaging original components.

    Elliott,

Yes I believe so. We have a long checklist with many items.

I bought mine off eBay. Most are the Bosch 3 pin type. I also bought a special pin removal tool to de pin the connectors safely. I purchased that from digikey you will require one to do the job properly. It’s known as a JPT pin extraction tool. Made the job a lot easier.

Depending when you were looking, you should have bought the 993TT and rode the appreciation curve then sell it. Would have enough to buy two 355’s and some change left over

^ Sure but that could be said for almost anything.

Right before I bought my first one, a 99 GTS, I looked at a higher mile (80k) 993 turbo at a local dealer. This was 2009. Asking price for the 993 was 35k. (was a bit rough) If I remember correctly 993tt and F355 in similar condition were similarly priced at the time.

Biggest deciding factor was watching youtube videos of F355 fly by's. Chills!

They've about doubled from where I was looking.

However...they had already gone up 30-40% at the time and that's when I started at looking other 90s cars that I had always wanted and landed on the F355. At that point I didn't really care about value anymore...it just seemed like (and IMO is) better bang for your buck.

I have friends that have 993s and they're eyeing 355's lately as well. The maintenance on a 355 isn't far off what these 993's cost to upkeep. They're not cheap by any means...I've seen the bills.

Gotta disagree, as a DD 993 driver for almost 15 years. They're as reliable as Hondas and Toyotas once you take care of the valve guides. At least mine has been. Probably a big reason they're so valuable. I needed more drama in my life so I got a 355 ;)

Looking at Jon’s serial on his 95 B

    100298

    Sept 94 build.

Anyone have the list on how this fits into overall production. It may be the first car brought into AZ.

Thanks for any help in tracking down more info.

    What model 993?

I'm referring to the RS', Turbos, etc. Even the C2S/C4S I've seen some service bills in the 3-5k range. Mostly taking care of leaks etc. though.

I would imagine a base Carrera would be much easier on the wallet but where's the fun in that. :D

Funny that you mention "once you take care of the valve guides"....isn't that what everyone's always bitching about with the 355? Like I said once the "major" potential issues are taken care of, they're not too far apart in maintenance costs. Even if the Ferrari averages $1k more per year...totally worth it over a dollar for dollar 993 without a shadow of a doubt.

NOT saying the 993 isn't a great car...the RS that I got to drive for a few days was a fantastic car, but it's in no way comparable to the event it is to drive a 355 every time, IMHO of course. :D

Shouldn't all this 993 chatter be better suited to a Porsche area? Let's get back on track here and that's what's cooking at Robb's place.

My car is a July 94 build with the single piece center undertray as well if that helps. If I recall correctly, 355 builds started in May 1994.

Just a note on refinishing Ferrari valve covers. When I recently paint stripped my old 348 valve covers I noticed that the most deteriorated areas of the painted surfaces were due to corrosion of the aluminum undre the "wrinkle" paint. I decided to pre paint the valve covers after glass bead blasting with a two part epoxy aircraft primer. I then applied to red wrinkle paint over the primer. I believe this will provide a longer lasting finish. Just my opinion.......I may be wrong, JGW

    Hey Robb,
I was looking through my phone for a certain picture when I happened upon a picture of your car from a few years ago. This was taken May 5, 2018 at the Exotics at Redmond Town Center weekend gathering.
