I bet you never thought you'd see a photo of yourself in the background of somebodies photos posted 27 years after they were taken!

I keep looking for myself on other people's pictures. Does that make me vain? There is a great one online of me walking past a 500 TRC in Brescia at the Mille Miglia in 2000.

For a few years I was 'technically' registrar of the UK Ferrari Owners Club but in the event I did not do a lot as the commitee came to the view that (a) many newer owners had no interest in the data and (b) that in this day and age a large number were concerend about security. The club now has extensive data but it is unlikely to ever be published (or indeeed disclosed, unless there is a justifiable case).

In preparing to undertake the role I spent a lot of time with Robert Abraham, who together with Geoff Willoughby, produced the first 4 editions of the printed register over some 30 years. It was clear that they had put in thousands of hours to ensure the accuracy of their work but Robert told me that many members submitted incorrect or inconsistent data and that, believe it or not, did not actually know the correct tipo of their own car! And of course, for the majority of this time VINs ot telaio wre not visible from the outside of the car so verification was not easy.

There are now three main sources of data on UK cars.

First, earlier editions of the FOC register can often be found at autojumbles.

Secondly, 'The Ferrari Serial Numbers Manual. by Matthias Urban and its more recent web based ammendments contains data on most of the road cars. Initially a lot of the data was gathered by a bunch of Dutch enthusiastsw who worked tirelessly checking every car they came across.

And, thirdly, several individuals - many of whom are F-Chat members, have extensive personal files. They have all spent many hours collecting this data and, understandably, aren't always willing to share their hard work in a wholesale fashion with those who can't be bothered to do any research.

Collecting serial number data is not easy and even the experts disagree on occasions!

You'll note this is recorded as 'TEV 36' elsewhere, but I believe this is from someone who didn't get a good enough look at the plate. Happy to be proved wrong...

Correct on both counts. s/n 16635 originally Blu Dino / Blu Nuvola, then repainted white and retrimmed in red leather.

The car appeared in Thoroughbred & Classic Cars mag in October 1983, which is where the photo below comes from (previously shared on fchat by Grant).

    -Ed

NB. The red Daytona as mentioned is s/n 16773, which is in its original colour combination (I don't believe it's ever been changed) and has only a few owners from new IIRC.

I think it says 412, so it looks to be a display plate.

Back to the two Daytonas, all of the posts are correct with the exception of the attribution
of the photograph of the white ex JCB car and the ex Peter Thorp/Ian Buddery spyder
conversion, which are featured on Pages 70/71 of Godfrey Eaton's book Great Marques -
Ferrari. The red car (16773) has had 4 owners (1st. and 3rd for 6 months each, 2nd for
25 years and myself for 18 years. The black car (16635) was purchased in 2005 on the
rebound after the purchase of a Daytona Comp Conversion (12681) failed to materialise.

Thanks for the tip, Ed. Did the car also appear in that T&CC magazine issue? I was going to acquire it to have a look at the article, but won't bother if that info is incorrect!

According to the records on file, Daytona 16635 was featured in T&CC in October 1983
but I've not seen a copy to verify. If you have sight of a copy and can confirm, I would
be much obliged. I have detailed copies of the extensive works carried out by the David
Clarke Organisation (Graypaul Motors Ltd) on behalf of Anthony Bamford between Feb '78
and October '80 involving a re-build to include - power steering, lightened clutch,
velocity stack carbs and wide wheels, front and rear etc. etc. etc.
