This is #05687 in August 1969 which was owned by John Williams, a pig farmer "when there ws money in pigs",who I met and who sent me the photographs. He bought the car to replace a A-M DB 4 GT which was unreliable, could close boot on collection from Newport Pagnell ,final straw being the head gasket failing, apparently causing the car to whistle!

He saw the Lusso at the London Motor Show, and met the Colonel at his London home ,where he test drove one,(#5031GT?) obviously making an impression on him as he ordered one!

He collected his Rosso Cino with black car from the factory in March 1964,and drove it back to the UK obviously keeping it for years.

I believe it is in Australia now.

    A really nice guy.

Going through the archives we came across this photograph which appears to be of #06044. Does anyone know any more and who the driver is?

06044 was born Azzurro Metallizzato 106-A-32. Completed 22 March 1973.
Sadly it was later repainted resale red.

s/n 6044 was originally ordered in November 1972 in the colour combo specified by Marcel. The first owner placed an order with Maranello Concessionaires in February 1973 for a Blu Chiaro car with Beige leather, but changed his desired specification over the following month to match the order for s/n 6044 - hence he was assigned this car instead.

The first registration of the car was JB 3081. It had two changes of keeper in 1975, another in 1982, then ended up with its next owner in 1983. DVLA has the colour change from blue to red recorded as happening in 1984.

The car was kept in single ownership from 1983 through to 2011. I understand it's had two changes of ownership since then, as well as a total restoration. It is a total matching-numbers car, currently painted in Blu Sera Met. with the interior trim in tan leather.

The man pictured in the photo may be the fifth owner, Mr Colin Turner.

This car has an interesting and complex history. One of Rob Walker's SWBs (2735 GT) driven by Stirling Moss but was wrecked when with the second owner, Chris Kerrison. The car was then sent to Drogos and this body was built. Kerrison kept the car for some time and after passing through several hands in went to Hugh Edgeley, a well known FOC member.

It went through a chequered history, with several changes of chassis and engine and ended up with John Satrkey, who raced it for some time. He has written up the story and it can be found on http://www.johnstarkeycars.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/The-Ferrari-250-GT-Drogo-Berlinetta.pdf

I took these photos at Brands Hatch, IIRC, in about 1970, probably before Edgeley acquired it. I recall it looked a bit rough, with ill fitting doors and a virtually matt finish. When John had the car it was much better finished.

A friend just dropped off this photograph of him with his 250 GT SWB which we believe is #2163. The photograph was taken in 1968/9 at Molesey in Surrey(very close to were Mototechnique are now).
John Markey is with his wife Wendy and Steven, both who whom were and are "useful" drivers.
The car was bought for a "few hundred pounds".It featured in a period edition of Autocar or Motor which I thought I had previously copied.

I know its not a Ferrari but..
This is then Wendy Markey standing next to the Maserati 3500 GT in 1968 prior to leaving the circuit in Sweden for a non stop drive to Portugal with John.
On the TRAILOR is a Costin Nathan.
The Maserati was bought in Italy for £300 and replaced a Jaguar MkII.
As you got start and prize money it was a fairly precarious way of living at that time. Apparently when a problem occurred with the car in Italy, the factory sorted it out free of charge. Just like Ferrari would have done!!

When you say 'period edition', do you mean during his ownership around the late 1960s? Or later?

Certainly appeared in a 1969 edition when it was for sale with Oliver Harris. But John did lend it to Motor as well just trying to find the copy
